First time laminating chanels

hi, first time laminating chanels,
got a bit of resin curing under cloth and made some bit of a mess by not squezzing out resin good do to cure time issues.

Question is : should i sand it down now or only after i hot-coat the board?

Hot coat. Sand now and you’ll have a bigger mess. I think you will be alright. Doesn’t look that bad to me.

cool, a friend told me to hot coat with pigment the darker the better, does it sounds like a good or better idea to you?

I wouldn’t add dark pigment because you are likely to get inconsistency in the color due to inconsistency in the thickness of the hot coat as you sand it. Also I don’t like dark colors on a surfboard anyway because it draws more heat in the sun, but that’s just me. Anyway, I’m no expert or professional, but I would just continue with clear resin.

I can’t tell for sure from the pic but it looks like there might be some dry spots under the glass, you will have to get resin in there or cut or sand the glass in that area. If you end up having to do that, or if you end up sanding through the weave in spots, you could always add a tail patch of glass later (after all this is cleaned up) which could be colored if you want.

As Huck has stated. Go with his advice.

To keep the integregity of the laminarion, hot coat it, sand it properly…meaning dont try to reshape the channels by over sanding. Dont worry about them not being symetrical in depth. Chalk it up as a learning experience.
Doesnt look that bad. You should have seen my first attempt. I was embarrassed. Tried fixing it and just got into a deeper mess and the boatd ended up being tail heavy.
