Fish: myth or reality?

Some people say they (traditional fish) go better in weak, mushy waves. Most I’ve heard say they excel in steep, critical waves. Which is true? Both?

Ryan, My experience has been both… BUT that`s contingient upon longer waves and smoother conditions.

Hey Ryan, Did you ever get your spoon in the water? How did it go? How’d the concave deck work?

My main board from the months of may through august in Florida is a fish and depending on the specs it shines on small mushy waves and will perform great up to about 6 ft then it tends to act funny. A must have in the quiver!!! http://www.soulsurfertv.com

ncguy, i checked out the peir yesterday (sunday)…but it didn’t look to promising. instead we went down to the inlet, and were the only people out. it was cold, raining, super mushy, and breaking way out and ugly. so i decided to body surf. when we were getting back in the jeep, we started to get pegged with little bits of hale…did u see any hale where u were? i got hit in the back of the head with a tiny one. the bodysurfin was fun though, got punded on shore. dj

If you take a look at many of Simmon’s early boards and many of the swallow tails of the eighties and Put a tape to them you will see that todays fish is nothing but a glorified eighties thruster. They work in the same conditions they have always worked in. Fish was a term invented in the ninties to give everyone the impression it was something new. The whole quiver cocept is flawed for the majority of surfers anyway. Until it gets over 6 feet most everything works. So ride whatever floats your boat.

There it all is. Now you have everything that there is to know about it. Why wonder about anything else. I’m at peace now. Congradulations … have fun!

I have yet to surf a keel fish so this is something I’ve wondered about. Different strokes for different folks, eh? Lee, I have yet to be near waves which I could let it loose in. The Great Lakes are like that. I am planning to be back in the salt soon, now that I have finished University. Same with my Neumatic. Until then my dreams will have to suffice. Thanks for inquiring, though.

DJ, You guys are hardcore the weather was dreadful!!! Yes we had some hail and some bitter cold rain. What a weekend!! It was beautiful today didn’t check the surf cause the wind was on it out of the north pretty heavy. >>Nc http://www.soulsurfertv.com

nc, yeah i definately heard it was good today. every report i read said about 6 foot, and most stating it was glass. i knee today would be the good day. looks awesome from a couple cams i saw. i faked sick today…shoulda said i went to school, and caught a session. the weather definately sucked yesterday though

what ever happened to those hardcore New York surfers and the 5 day swells? Coral, how’s your Dad? Can we spin the fis again?

Hey Ryan, What is steep critical waves for two hundred! A traditional keel fish (key words here) is like a Hobie Cat. You need to get it up on one pontoon to haul ass. It just so happens it’s a lot easier to get a keel fish up on one rail in steep critical waves. Nothing gets the anticipation of speed going like dropping in on a steep point break with a keel fin fish. SR

the keel fin or quad fish can ride every high in a long lined up wave.then when aimed toward base of juicy wave all that width put to maximum use then leaned rail buried with all that straight rail on edge then back on all that width-----get the picture?BANKING SPEED!!That is what the fish was designed for-------------------------------------------------->

A fish doesn’t work, you guys have been listening to the herbinator to much.Get a body board instead.Body boarders rule! You surfboarders suck! Most of you can’t even stand up so get some fins and join us in crushing the blue market kooks.

…from our own local kooks.Herb

They work best in long hollow waves and get kinda tracky in sloppy mush.
