Hey, i’m going to make a fish about 6’4’', just wondering what kind of rocker measurements i might use? also wondering if anyone had any good detailed dimensions for fish and good fin placement for quad fish? thanks!
Mate , that’s such an all encompassing lot of queries it’s hard to know where to start.
how long was that piece of string? how many worms are in that can ?
I’ll gladly defer to the gurus , but …
If I was to build a 6’4 for me , I’d go 21 ‘’ wide or a bit more , about a 16 1/2 ‘’ tail , nose about 15’’ , pins about 10 ‘’ apart keeping the mid section fairly parallel for glide and skate with a bit of curve in the last foot.
the rocker I went with was 4’’ N 1 7/8 T which works for me but my boards are longer so you might want a bit less.
Study , study photos and get akushaper or another programme so you can get a template from a digital pic,
and as far as fins go search in the archives under quad fish fin placement it’s all there.
welcome to Swaylocks.
thanks for the info. that’s pretty much what i was looking for. just one more question… where do you usually put the wide point on the board?
thanks again!
Check out these sample outlines at Greenlight’s site…it will give you some ideas.
3" up from center for a retro fish, However it’s not etched in stone.
thanks! ive been looking for online templates for a while. way better than going to a surfshop and doing measurements.
The search function seems to be going through another ‘period of transition’ so here’re a couple of threads to while away the evening

here’s a pic of the board I developed my first from - I copied it on akushaper and then pulled the tail tips in a little
I’m happy to snail mail you or anyone else fish and fin templates. Just PM me your information. Mike
Here’s my 2C on stuff that hasn’t been covered yet.
At that size,I wouldn’t go over 15.5" on the nose and
put the wide point up at 1.5". Go with the quad, set
the front fins at 11", the backs at 5" up. 1 3/8" in from
rails on all. Toe the front set at 3/16" and the rears at
1/8". 6 degrees on all fins. This set-up works well with
the non-canard speeddialer sets or the LB1/LB4 lokbox
set. (check out the fin specs and see what’s available that
matches up). I have done this set-up on a lot of fish,
with bumps or without. It works really well in beach breaks
or point type surf. Just my 2C!
a 6’4 fish huh?
How big of a person is this for?
Keeping to the “standard” sort of dims for a fish-type board i would go somewhere around 23in wide personally. But we’re talking andre the giant dims here. I am also up for send out templates, i’ve made a TON and have them ready to go so let me know if you’re interested. I could also convert to pdf for you to print out on your end to save on postage/time. Here are some samples…
