11’6” x 33” x 4.5” Epoxy/EPS. I wanted to make something to take me to all of my whipping grounds in Kaneohe Bay I came up with this creation and used a Simmons style planning haul shape with flatter rockers and a wide tail for stability. I also wanted to make something I could sit on, and hold my poles, net and paddle. I came up with using a five gallon bucket with PVC pipes, nylon straps held down with bungee cords using loop leash plugs. I haven’t water tested this yet. My next SUP project will be a combination cooler and pole holder system that can retro fit on any 10+ foot, 30+ inch wide SUP. My brain is flowing with ideas now. I am excited!
What a fantastic craft ! Very cool.
Looking good Uncle D!
… So much so, that I’ll say it again ! I do like it. I may have to build one, for the La Jolla kelp beds. Kelp Bass, and White Sea Bass, abound. Looks like a really fun toy. Well done.
Very nice UncleD. Good colors.
You eliminated the outboard motor on this one. Did you use another yoga mat for padding?
Dennis, you got me thinking about my blank. Looks like you have something going there with the bucket. I’m thinking about a seat/container thing (small cooler?) that you can sit on and not have to stand up paddle. Maybe even make it a rowing style board with oars and use the oar holders to also hold fishing poles. You can get moving along quite a bit faster with oars. I know people have used kayaks to troll for fish.
We use to ride waves with a little dingy and dad would catch waves with the 14’ row boat, so I know you can control the board in surf with oars. This may be the tool Bernie and I need to get to the outer reefs and surf. He already has a 12’ SUP, so we could paddle out on those and tow our regular boards.

A long kayak paddle might make a good compromise. Kayaks can be paddled much faster than canoes.
Aloha Harry:
I am working on the cooler/pole holder prototype now . I am going to use high density foam sheets and later have John Martin build be a mold. I am trying to figure out the fastener system so it can fit on any 10’+ x 30”+ SUP boards. If it works out, we will take it to market.
Thanks,
Dennis
Hey this one is to work the shallows and cast for the papios feeding on the inner reefs of Kaneohe. No motor required. No Yoga pad this time but found a good deal on weight lifing pads during the Sports Authority going out of business sale. I picked this pad up for around $20 and I still have the other half to use on a later project.
Nice, that looks like fun

Weight lifting pad, interesting. What thickness did you use?
The pad is about 1/4" thick. I am always looking at stuff and trying to find a marine/surf application. I think this one will work out fine.
How did the yoga pad hold up on your outboard SUP? I was wondering if UV light is a problem.
I found some perfect softeness foam but it cannot handle UV light. It is a bit pricey too. Found some good softness polyethylene (?) foam used for shipping in a package I got but do not have a clue where to find sheets of it.
Hey Dennis, someone told me you stopped surfing. I think it was someone who knows you from numba trees. Is that true? Hard to believe.
Bernie’s SUP is a 12’ Munoz and it has threaded holes all over it. I think those would make it easy to screw down the cooler.
Stoney, I use kayak paddles with a 8’ x 24" x 4" paddle board. I actually broke my paddle racing my daughter who was on a SUP. I think the oar idea may be flawed, but I know you can get a lot more power from each stroke with a set of oars. Having the shafts that hold them may be an issue for a surf craft.
The yoga pad is still holding up on the motorized SUP. I store it out of the sun. That was a great $16 investment.
Harry: I am still surfing but not as well and not as early as I used to. That guy was probably was with the early morning weekend crew. BTW, I sold Bernie a big guy short board. Did he have a chance to surf it yet?
D
Looks like a fun project UncleD. I remember Resinhead made a pretty nice fish board. Maybe take a look at his to compare/contrast. I think he integrated a cooler on his. Just a thought. I always enjoy your boards. Happy hunting.
We dodged two hurricans this past week and today the KBAY was absolutely beautiful. We decided to skip surfing and water test the fishing bucket SUP. For 4.5" thick board, it was quite stable and could hold up my fat #250 ass. I got my young neighbors to try it out so I could get a few pictures.

Dennis
the board’s awesome…
I’m out paddling all the wavehogs on their 10’ longboards
plus the board fits in my car like any other 8’er
still haven’t figured out the fin setup yet
tried 6" takayama halo’s and 4 1/8" rear halo quads but it pivoted tooo much
tired T1’s up front with GX quad rears but still not the drive I wanted.
I can see this being a hanalei quiver killer down the road once i figure out the fin situation
reminds of the 8’ i gave PPK
I really like this template with its smooth roundpin outline and big hips
as far as oarboards
here some that you can carry in a backpack and blowup at the waters edge
Nice uncled!
For what it’s worth, a recent communication with the folks at USBlanks revealed that they now have custom EPS hot wire cutting ability.
You can submit a rocker/thickness profile and they can cut it - practically ANY size. I was told they have the ability to cut up to 24’ lengths from blocks that are 3’ X 4’ in width/depth.
PS - no CNC cutting. These are rectangular ‘sled cuts’ only. Stringers available to order.
