Fixing dodgy colour jobs

After applying a solid paint colour (purple) to the bottom of a board and then glassing it,it has turned out a bit patchy and has whitish specks under the glass. It has been hot coated and finned but has not improved in appearance. Question, should I sand it and prepare for glossing then get it spray painted with a solid colour over the glass job?, It would be properly taped up of course. Could the board be then glossed as normal? The paint would only cover the bottom and rails. I would really appreciate someone’s expert opinion. Thanx John.

John, If the board going to be on the market? If not, don’t waste a lot of time trying to do extensive cover up. I used to do days of hot coat spray color to cover fudge ups. The boards were for commercial sale, but still all of the time was not worth it. If I had paint pens back then I could have done “Lost” art and saved time and made money. http://www.JimtheGenius@aol.com

Yea, the paint was too thick and it crytalized under the lamination. Red is notorious as well as other dark colors put on too thick. Don’t paint a full length board on top of hotcoat, but you can pigment your hotcoat very creatively(even with a swirl or a flat opaque. Or do a freehand design on the most dicked up areas with paint pens then gloss or spray acrylic over it. I once did a jellyfish freehand over the whole longboard bottom and people loved it!
