Florida Surf (this month)

Thinking about taking a quick trip in the next few weeks. As a result of some airline deals, Florida seems like a fairly cheap place to get to. Any surf out there if I were to get there in about two weeks? Location isn’t set, but need to have a hotel/airport/surfbreak in a relatively close area. Opinions?  I don’t need superb surf, but hoping for at least some decent longboarding.

Tampa should be great this time of year.

Two weeks out is hard to call, and once past May 15 we're normally entering the summer doldrums. But even then there's frequently something longboardable on the central east coast (Daytona or Melbourne would be your places where there's hotel/airport/break close together, but you'd probably find better flight deals into Orlando which is ~60 miles inland from either). There's a low spinning up off the Carolinas right now, too bad you're not coming this week.

I’m think of a drive over Mike.  How are things where you are now?  Heating up isn’t it…LOL.

''Heating up'' is right, summer weather (with periodic deluges of rain) is here. Swell is trying to get here too, but nothing to get excited about yet. Tomorrow forecast to be better. Are you coming to see Steve and pick up some boards?

Ft. Pierce North Jetty - Cocoa Beach would be my recommendation if you are just going for surfing. Shortboard - funboard waves.

If you want crappy longboard waves a couple of days during the two weeks but a good time Ft. Lauderdale - South Beach Miami - just be ready for $25 a cocktails and gorgeous Columbian girls.

If you want best beaches for family, quiet, gorgeous water and maybe some crappy longboard waves Destin Florida - Best sand in the world and very quiet.

Jacksonville - Daytona gets decent swell and Jacksonville is a real city which is cool. You can get shortboard waves here.

Any gulf coast of Florida will be pretty but iffy if you get waves, all my gulfcoast friends are SUPers because waves do not come that often.

I live in South Beach in Miami and Atlanta, GA. I have surfed just about every area of Florida you can imagine. East coast of Florida you can get shut down this time of year April - August from a jellyfish invasion unless you drive around it. 1,000's can blow in over night, but only lasts a couple of days if it happens and usually just a couple of miles area at a time.
