I have been scouring the internet for information on epoxy pigments and trying to find some fluro colours. I thought i was in luck when i saw some on viral surf saying poly and epoxy compatable made by west and senior however when i rang west and senior they said they only do fluro’s for polyester.
I then had a bit more of a dig on here and found some said they use poly stuff in epoxy anyway and i have myself but only on very small un important things.
i see plenty of epoxy boards using fluro colours but what are people using as i can only find very boring colours made for epoxy!.
any help would be great im based in the uk so if there was a supplier not on the opposite side of the world that would be handy.
… and watches with interest… I’ve used poly pigments in epoxy before and usually at 2-5% by weight ratio max. Been tempted to try those on seabase but either my arms are too short and my pockets too deep to go spend a heap of money. What about acrylic colours or powder poster paint?
i have been doing some acrylic spays on the foam in fluro but would like to try some resin work. i believe the seabase stuf is all west and senior as well but once again there true epoxy tints are all a little boring.
I bought some pigment from viral-surf (not fluorecent, but it is west as well). I laminated a board with it, combined with RR epoxy. Seems the same as the pigments from seabase.
Viral-surf has good customerservice btw, although they are french.
I have done some small tests with other poly pigments and it seamed to be ok but I dont have any scientific way of realy testing wether it is harming the strength of the epoxy and the only thing i can realy see as the next step is to commit a hole board to it which I don’t realy want to do untill I’m sure but it’s sounding like people are using poly stuf in epoxy,it would be nice to know a little more if the combination is safe to use. I dropped a message to viral surf yesterday but have not heard anything back yet.
I’m shooting tempura on the foam and then glassing, just ordered in a few flouro colors. RR PH is really bright epoxy, man it’s killer. Helps that color pop, & super white boards (coupled w/a quality glass). I’m not there in terms of skill for the pigment work, it’ll be nice to revist this thread if you find a dedicated flouro epoxy resin. The pigments I do have (collecting dust on the shelf) are for both poly and epoxy as well.
EDIT: also playing with Cerex skin as a seal coat with an epoxy slurry. shooting colors over the nylon as I think it tends to have a hiding effect. Plus, my slurry coat has x-55, alcohol and cab-o blended in, translucenting the blank even further.
look forward to hearing more from you green light although shipping to the uk will be a bitch!
i have just done a test on some poly pigment straight on to eps and there doesn’t seam to be any reaction there so it comes down to the epoxy, maybe greg will see this and perhaps have something to say?
I've been to Fiberglass Hawaii in Ventura a few times. They have a wide selection of tints and pigments....lots of colors! ...and they have quite a few Fluorescent colors in Paint....
The tints and pigments I am using all came from Foamez / FiberglassHawaii / Mitches Solona Beach. Looks like the same stuff......works great with poly or Epoxy.
