foam core SU paddle

Hey Guys

Has anyone built a stand up paddle with a foam core???

I did a search and it was mentioned a couple of times but never had any info.

Is it possible and how would you go about it???

Cheers

Yes, works well. I have made about a half dozen. I’ll post some pics tonite. I think I posted a while back. Try searching on my name and check maybe a year ago. Also, Uncle D has made some and may have a post or two.

Yea, its prob the easiest way. homeblown do a polyurethane and eps blank for sup’s, but i’d prob go for epoxy and eps. they take such a hammering.

OK, here it is.

Yeap, I am working on two more that I need to finish by Christmas. Basswood shaft, HD foam, carbon over the blade, epoxy resin. I’ll post when I finish.

Uncle D, can’t wait to see them. Carbon is a mess to work with.

My next ones will be with Dcell foam (1/4 inch) and cedar shafts. The first ones I made were split down the middle of the shaft and had a layer of 6 oz glass sandwiched. Very stiff and strong. My last ones omitted that sandwich and were very floppy. To the point that I wrapped them in 4 oz glass to stiffen them up. The sandwich was best.

Post yours and I’ll try to get my Dcell paddle made by Christmas.

All the best.

Hey Guys

Thanks for all the info.

Thats exactly what I was looking for.

The photos seem to help explain things a lot better.

Thanks again guys.
