Foam discoloration after lamination

Hello everybody,

So here is my next question. As some of you know, i am building boards while deployed in Afghanistan. We have recently hit a snag. A buddy and i recently laminated the bottom of his board with RR Epoxy and S Glass. We put his artwork on a few days ago. We hot caught up, and could not return until today. After lamination, we noticed the artwork epoxy line/foam border was discolored. Prior to laminating, we sanded the board very lightly to get rid of the dust. It appeared clean. After lamination, the colors are off. My questions are as follows.

  1. Do you believe this is the border of the epoxy and foam and will sand out like the fin box lines.

  2. Can this be dust? Will sanding it improve the situation?

  3. Is there anything we can do to minimize the effect. This board has a whole bunch of military stuff on it, and it would totally suck if it can’t be repaired.

I attached a pic for reference. Its easiest to see in the top left nose area.

Hi sickfish.  First of all.  Thank you for your service.  I’m not sure what you mean about discoloring, but if you are talking about a shadow where the laminate paper meets the foam I don’t think it will sand out.  Probably the paper under the glass.  Nice board, anyway.  You guys rock!  Mike

The color of your paper is brighter than the blank and didn’t go translucent it looks like then the brightener in the epoxy magnified it. That’s a done deal.
