My mind runs wild with thoughts of getting good enough waves to ride some of the boards I already have. I’ve got a few new additions that haven’t been put through their paces yet.
I’m hoping the coming winter will be kind to us

i picked up 3 blanks from homeblown last week so been doing lots of dreaming, was hoping to start shaping this week but some work has come up and im getting paid in surfboard blanks so by the end of the month i should have about 10 blanks sat waiting to shape but no energy left to shape them!
guess im gonna be dreaming lots for a while!

i have dreams about surfing all the time and i wake up and want to shape the board in my dreams...but i hit snooze
hurricane bill is coming up the coast!
I dream a lot. Sleep time is when my mind slips out into the deepest sea and most nights I have a series of heart-stopping adventures as well as some calm and gentle moments beyond any concious thoughts Ive ever had. A recurring one is where I am water or underwater.
Not a drop of water but a body of water and I can steer those dreams toward board design. Or maybe thats the destiny of the dream and Im just caught in the current.
Thats when I come up with ideas and fantastic shapes that have no relation to science or sense, morphing multi-coloured bubbles into streamlined blobs into living beasts that never lived. And the journey lasts for what seems like hours and in the morning Im shattered by the physical effort and mental gymnastics.
But later in the day my mind has stopped running and thats when I reflect on what are often highly realistic memories and try to mold the storms into solid forms of foam and fibreglass or any material that suits. Daytime is quiet time to think and carefully reflect.
So the night is when my mind runs wild but the daytime is for building those dreams into reality.
This is getting weird…

So I finished shaping my 2nd board last weekend and I wanted to do some awesome artwork on it. So I came up with this rad plaid pattern and figured it all out on my computer. Then at night when I am trying to sleep, my mind is racing of all the different ways I can paint on my board. ( I wish I had the opportunity to have 1000 boards that I could shape and paint on... do all sorts of crazy designs) But I don't have that right now... I'm still a novice with BIG dreams.
I love shaping, and I love painting... still have to learn the glassing part better. At least in my dreams, I can shape and glass perfectly. HAH
we need waves here.....

then i come up to the house clean up have tea
& then i get on the puter & the next thing swaylocks;

I think you know I have a cnc machine and mostly scan boards with it. Sometime we cut for a couple of builders however I’m not a cutting service per say. I only like to cut for myself. Well we had this miss cut so I took the blank and my Hitachi planner and cleaned it up and used a template from a 1973 dragon fly. Sam Hawk made the center spread of the mag while surfing Backdoor and when he came home to Huntington Beach that summer templates were taken off his board. I was a 15 year old grom at the time.
I had one made that summer and it was the best board of my youth. Everyone had full Brewer Rails however these Dragon Flys had foiled rails and fluted wings. It had a single fin. As a Thruster or a Quad or maybe a five fin it will be fun to revisit this baby now that we have much better fin knowledge than back in the day. Wish I was still 15! I took the opportunity to just free style this shape. You see the ding I made on the deck near the rail. That was haste on my part because I was going real fast because I had real orders to finish. My time is really tight and sometimes I rush which is stupid on my part. I will be ok on this one because I will Spackle the ding and layup a graphic fleece on the deck to hide my sins. This was just for fun Kind of like Dreaming!

right now I´m thinking about my next personal board (something like the NathanFletchers quad board)
Whitney, as an old dog I can offer that while you are young and have creative ideas ,that you should write down your designs and draw all your artwork ideas, and put a date on them too. Later in life you might not have the time to be so creative and sometimes the inspiration fails as other things fill your life too.
Put them down on paper and keep them safe because in years to come you will have a library of personal ideas and art and you can see how your work, and you, have developed over the years.
