Does anyone know if the foam dust kills grass? I shaped about 4 boards on the grass over the past 3 months and noticed my grass was not as green as usual…I was thinking it might be good for aeration like perlite, but I’m no scientist.I’m near San Francisco and 2000’ from the coast so not too hot if that helps.
thanks in advance
Tom
Does the dust have an odor? Then probably not good for organics. The grass might just be trampled under foot too.
I got the same. Don’t think grass liked my foam dust either. Though it’s easier to clean up doing it in the garden lol.
Um, no. Plastic anything is not good for organic anything (with the exception of the inumerable gew gaws eg., plastic heart valves, VHS tapes and, oh right- surfboards- that humans cherish… but we’re doing our best to become inorganic beings IMO).
And since you’re blessed to live in such a nice part of town (what’s with the Tenderloin, Tom?), you can probably live with the fact that lawns and lots of other plants aren’t crazy about that sandy soil, salty air and endless onshore wind. Take a look at the new Lands End landscaping for native plants that do.
They won’t like foam dust either though.
Great advice from warthawg. Where is the Tenderloin?
Yea, time for a shed with in take fan / filtered out take fans,. Plus walking in circles 100 times around the board didn’t help much. I just found a place called Calee close by in Pacifica where you can rent a room from and tools, I need to check out. http://www.caleeboardfactory.com
@ wart hog ,I payed my dues living in the loin for a few years at Turk and Taylor. My cousin gave me that nick name.I’m sticking to it. I’m “digging” that new landscape at lands end and hope to clone that set up
here a pic of my old crib, top left 4th floor fire escape.even the gps goes around it
Hah! Thanks tom. At least it has a fire escape! SF isn’t my favorite place. Too crowded and seedy. No place to park. Guys with nowhere to piss, but on the sidewalk. My wife likes to go to the museums and China Town to eat. Sometimes I go to keep her happy. Happy wifey, happy lifey and all that. I have quite a large native Calif. landscape. Never water it. Looks like the hills during the dry months. Beautiful after a couple of good rains. It could care less about our drought. I don’t shape in it tho. I’ll have to check that website, too. Mike
Casey has a good setup @ Tenderloin tom, all the blanks you need and a good space.
I hate to be negative. But it is really bad to be shaping outside and letting any type of blank dust other than wood disperse into the envinronment. Both PU and EPS take a very long tiime time to break down. In your case it may end up in the bay and then ocean. So essentially you are polluting. I just made an inexpensive shaping room with plastic trap in the garage of my apartment, because I couldn’t completly contain my dust.
As for your lawn. …You smashed it down. Try some water and fertilizer.
toxic waste…ha ha ha ha …
I would glass the surfboard in the same spot…Just to piss off the greenies , and to leave a mark !!!
What is the internet? what is it made of…you can be as green as you want…guess what…computers are not made from tree sap…and I’m a hell of alot greener than you might think…
Stingray
And… Quad fin set up ??? Bottom curves? board looks good!!
Jwb4600 is right. I only did 3 out there and swept up the other’s on the cement. I’m just started to do what resin head says and water and feed, organic food of course.
@ sting ray, I’m going single fin on it. It’s pretty much a 6’4" mini log single concave with a blunt nose. I was digging your boards you posted the other day and want that orange one:)
