Hi all, I have some friends that tell me to make my blanks from Finnfoam (A Finnish brand). Can you make anything out of the data (http://www.finnfoam.fi/clientExtra/english.pdf)? The foam is normally used for insulation etc. Especially the fact that it doesn’t absorb water seems interesting.
Yep, from what it looks like, it’s Extruded Polystyrene Foam, similar to Dow brand Styrofoam. Funny you should ask, I just got done talking about a board I made from that stuff, go to the rail channels thread and read near the end. If it’s just like the Dow stuff, it’s got problems…I can’t read down the weight or compression strength numbers to compare them to the dow stuff, or tell you what grade to use, not quite up to speed on my metrics, sorry. Haavard? any one?
For info on similar foams, search swaylocks with these keywords:
Dow
Blueboard
