foiling fins - teaser/explanation

I think ruckusman is right , IIRC it was called a welding clamp.

here’s a better shot of it

I was planning to get some vice grip / mole grips and have them welded to a steel bar or plate , but when I saw this clamp I grabbed it, problem solved.

I found it at a local retailer , ’ Super Cheap Auto" , a DIY car buff’s supplier , obviously.

(It’s probably made in China , so yes , i’m a hypocrite.)

anyone ...

did that short vid clip I posted above play for you ?

ruckus Glenn, I went to the post office today and priced the postage ...

I'll 'p.m.' you

   cheers mate !

  ben

Your video worked for me, thanks!

that's good , mate ....thanks for letting me know ... cheers, Hans !

Very cool Chip…er, Finno. It’s great how much you can pick up from 1min 25 seconds of footage. Lookin forward to your video Ruckus.

cheers CassS !!

I'm glad you enjoyed it , it's a tinkerers footage ...

...by comparison , I can't wait to see Ruckus's  !

if I was still using a grinder [with grinding discs] to foil fins , the 1 m 25secs  video of mine could easily be titled ....

 "one slips , no kids "    , eh ?

Cool! I can see the video Ben.

I just had to click on the picture…

That looks like the way that I do it too.

....thanks , Chris !

glad to know that it plays here !

  cheers

Hey Guys,

some pics of the mega multi-purpose shaping/glassing/sanding and now foiling stands: Cheap - $99 saw stand from Bunnings.

Removed the supplied roller timber suppports and welded up some board
shaping ends, these load straight into the 30mm x 30mm slots. Height is
adjustable and I’m making some glassing supports tomorrow.

Removed the supplied legs and
made my own (shorter) with adjustable feet as I don’t really have much
level ground outside.

Supercheap Auto bench vice - welded a cross piece 5mm x 50mm flat bar, with two holes drilled and tapped for bolts - again height is adjustable and the vice spins on it’s base a full 360 degrees.

hi Glenn !

any luck , cutting out and foiling any of the fins yet ??

  cheers !

  ben

Hey Guys,

apologies for the delay…can you believe I know a dozen professional camera men and none of them own small camcorders that work, so I got three broken ones to fix.

Now I have a working one, plus two GoPros.

So I’ll have three camera positions to cut from.
Will be foiling/shooting tomorrow or Friday, edit on the weekend

Jesus glad you like the stand, limited work and storage space necessitated that I had something foldable and adaptable, plus it extends to ~2m for longer boards

It’s easy to switch between shaping/glassing and they are much more stable than the drums full of concrete that I used to drag around.

peace out

woohooo !!!

thanks heaps , Glenn, you timed it great , I was just about to go to bed !

great to hear you are still around , and good to go on 'the project'

have fun , and I EAGERLY await the footage ....

Are you getting some nice waves , too , at the moment ?

  cheers !

ben ,   from the other side of oz ...

I now have forty fin blanks , waiting in the 'wings' to be foiled  ....

Glenn,

how's things going at your end of the country ?

I will wait to see the footage before doing any further fin foiling , in the hope of learning some new tricks / refinements .....

  cheers !

  ben

hi mate !

any update , please ??

It's been a W H I L E  now .... so , have you had a chance to cut out and foil ANY of the fin panels I sent you ?!

cheers !
