For a laugh!

Go to this http://www.evolutionsurf.com website and check out their OUR TEAM!

I heard that Wayne Lynch had sold out his interest in the Evolution label. I also heard that the label was being directed at a certain demographic (not that there’s anything wrong with that), the website and team roster seems to confirm this. Photos of boards paired with lace up women’s shoes? Give me a f***ing break. And that team roster is a real joke. I hope that Tony Hawk will be bailing out real soon (I would if I were him).

The Evolution label probably has a loyal following among the type of people who bought that $5000 Gucci surfboard. I bet that a full 2% of the team boards ever see water, and that would probably be for some Hollywoood rag photo shoot. This is the type of board that SHOULD be made in China…

Once again I ask the rhetorical question: Was Dora not a true prophet of the surfing world? Think twice before answering.

Tony Hawk may bail, but I hope they keep Danny Devito on the team–that guy rips Lowers like nobody’s business (may have to do with his low center of gravity). When he and Shania twain paddle out, you might as well call it a day.

Gag me !!! sell out to hollywood. Wayne must have taken the money and ran. I would love to see Danny Devito surf. They need a reality show now with stars that surf.

I miss Paris.

Dronai:

Good Idea, a contest series for Hollywood and media types to be broadcast on Network TV. Here’s my picks as contest sites (all with a 90 day window for minimum 10-15 ft. surf). No board caddies, tow ins or “coaches” allowed:

Contest 1: Waimea Shorebreak

Contest 2: The Wedge (standup only)

Contest 3: Jaws

Contest 4: The Box or Shark Island

Contest 5: Mavericks

Final: 2nd Reef Pipe or macking Sunset (option: Makapuu Point)

If they hold this series and televise it, I will not only watch every telecast, but I will also record each one. Talk about reality TV!

A “Soggy Cartoon” Indeed…

Heaps of credit for this dynamic marketing strategy… more power to them if they can sell more boards at these prices. Maybe some of the pricing structure will even trickle down to the rest of us non-luxury crowd. I hope so. Maybe I’ll be able to afford one of those cool $120.00 t-shirts to augment my thrift store hand me downs.

The team photos have been providing me with laughs all day long. C’mon, Hugh Hefner, Ice Cube, Courtney Love and even Anna Nicole Smith… Yeah, I see 'em out in the water all the time!

Click on the “fashion” thing…I’d probably even buy surf magazines again if they had foldouts like that shot. Although it looks like that girl should have worn sunscreen…

I’d buy a surftech with a side of noodles before I’d buy an Evolution board.

I dropped in on Courtney Love once…BIG mistake. She punched me in the face and called me the C-word!

You guys had better be careful & watch what you say, otherwise the Power Rangers will king hit you next time they see you in the lineup!!

That’s a funny/sad site. I guess people have different definitions of what “team riders” are??

Kind Regards,

Matt.

It didn’t work. I wish I could see their team, sounds pretty sick.

It’s all marketing: Using the image of surfing to sell pretty surfboards. Somebody is making lots of money, (I’m not opposed to that), and a bunch of celebs have a surfboard with their name on it, hanging on the wall of one of their houses.

For most of us who surf and build surfboards, this is sewage in a sexy package. Nevertheless, I’ll bet Danny DeVito likes his surfboard. Everybody enjoys surfboards in their own way.

I’m happy making the best boards I can and surfing the best I can. I have two good arms and two good legs, and I can see with both eyes. Evolution boards don’t bother me. Doug

This might be the best Swaylocks thread EVER. We get to make fun of pop-culture, AND it’s (somewhat) surf-related.

People on the Evolution Team who I’d like to kick in the nuts:

Kirk Hammet

Dan Cortese

Velvet Revolver.

What a bunch of DOUCHEBAGS!

HA!! That IS funny.

On a more interesting note…check out the photos in the surfboards/balsa section — isn’t that Jim Phillips?

Hey Mike,

When this thread started, I saw Jim right away… Well, actually I saw Brooke Burns first and then Jim, haha… Anyone still prefer a Surftech over an Evolution, haha.

Best,

Herb Bean

After I read the last couple of posts I realized I didn’t even look at the boards, heh heh. They looked pretty nice on the website. More like art than surfboards. Their whole vibe is a little too upscale and exclusionary for my tastes; to each his or her own.

So I guess it’s surftech for a Takayama model and Evolution for a Lindsay Lohan…

All I know is this: The next time I’m in the market for a $120 ‘surf’ T-shirt, I’ll know where to look!

In the picture, I think Jim’s using one of those $120.00 shirts to work in… Now that’s classic - you know he’s got resin all over it by now.

…Paris Hilton…and Melissa Miller (M.M. use to live down the block from me) are coming by today to show me their new swimsuits. They also asked about “getting some private” medical advice from me…

…What a nice pair to play doctor with…

I rather be a fisherman !

Fisherman!?

That’s me ~

Here’s a few tips:

If you want to bring dinner home you gotta know what the water’s doing, what to use and how to present it. Though I fish for mermaids exclusively I do bring home a nice amount of incedental by-catch to be broiled or for a cioppino.

Bright lures are best. Surfboards work ok as long as you select the size carefully but I you really want some action you need a two man outrigger caneo, a hobie cat or at least a 26 ft sloop. For the really search angler my two top choices would be a 60ft.+ schooner rigged sailing yatch or a cruse ship.

Whether your rod is five feet or twelve and an half feet it won’t make any difference unless you can walk the walk and talk the talk. Tackle is of utmost importance. If you have to fish from the beach like me green works best particularly on cloudy days when the surf is flat. Very durable paper with presidental pictures produces beautifully. Bright shell lures are big with island mermaids but I don’t have to tell you how fool proof diamonds are for those frequent the mainland…

Oh wait I hear someone at the door – It must be what’s attached to that package I’ve been waiting for…
