[…as in … who has 3 y.o. kids ?]
what sort of measurement from their armpit to , say , their wrist ?
Just asking to help determine what kind of width [and thickness] would be good for say a 3’6-4’ board, please ?
…thanks in advance !

hi chip, my 3.5 y/o girl’s arm is about one foot long from armpit to wrist…she’s about avg or slightly below avg size…but then again everyone over here seems obese to me anyway…
btw, i think kids wouldnt carry a board normally…usually over the head or they drag it across the beach on a rope…wider is definitely better to start out with…good luck
oh okay , thanks Meecrafty …
I was just thinking if ‘mum’ has to carry it everywhere, the board won’t be getting to the beach with the son too often …
Meecrafty is right, small kids are not likely to be carrying their board. If nothing else even a small board is heavy for a little kid. I’ll measure my boys’ arm reach tonight. They are 2.5yr & 5yr; both large for their age.
make it 18 inches hey i had to carry my board.
At almost 7 years old my son’s arm is 19.5" from pit to finger tip.
I’m making my grandson a board at this very point in time and asked my daughter to measure from his armpit to his fingertips.
His measures 15 3/4" turning 3 late June.
I had to carry my own board
My first board was a well beaten 7’ single fin… that I didn’t realise was a Col Smith shape until well after I got rid if it, but that’s another story

PS: I’d suggest a used board that can be dragged, dropped, dinged about would be a good first board for someone that young. You’re really wanting them to become familiar with the ocean and get a feel for the waves at that stage.

I think that a good first kid board is one of those Surface boards. They’re definantly not high performance, but when they fall on them they don’t get hurt. For super young kid No Tears = Fun
There is one similar to the mact called hot grommet or something like that . they can ride waves on them . thruster set up.
and of course, not forgetting the good ol’ foamie !! [“what I learnt on , after a surf mat”]
15" wide could be good for the monty board, Grant … is it 4’ , or a tad under ?
ben
chip delay in getting back but her it is. The 2.5 yr old is 15" arm pit to finger tip and 11" to wrist. The 5 yr old is 19" to finger tip and 14" to wrist. They are both big for their age. roughly 38" and 48" respectively.
thanks for that 4est !!
I think Grant is going with 18" wide .
I and “Lavz” will be seeing the board tonight , anyway …should be interesting !
I made a 4’11 fish once for a mate’s 7yo son .
