ive been going through quite a few posts and noticed that some of you use lam resin and some sanding resin…i think i read somewhere that someone used both? which is recommended?is it a personal preference? ive just been using sanding resin…and i used 30 layers of 6oz.but the base is way too thin…maybe get some heavier cloth and give alittle more love to the base?
thanks in advance.
-the young and not so smart..yet.
A couple more layers of 6oz. and the thickness for a Bayne box will be real close. Do the lay up with laminating resin and just do the last couple layers of the stack with sanding resin. The layup will be stronger and will foil just fine.
No Worries, Rich
I use 36 layers of 6 oz cloth for a Bahne base.
First layer and last layer with sanding, lam in between. As Halcyon suggested, the lam resin sands just fine in a fin stack.
Gloss finish them the same way you gloss finish a surfboard gives the best result for making fins at home - the pros will shoot a clearcoat onto them in a production facility. If you want quick-and-easy just paint a sanding resin layer onto them real thin.
