for those who ride thin thrusters...

two questions…[ second one has three parts]

  1. how many do you buy / make per year ?

  2. if you snap them… do you

a] fix them yourself ?

b] take them to a shop to fix ?

c] buy a new one ?

okay, thanks for your feedback…

  1. latest one is 3 months old. intend to make a fish and another standard (6’3") this year

  2. If snapped, will fix myself if considered worthwhile. Fixed 2 out of 2 in last 14 years (obviously not very radical surfer because I don’t snap 20 per year). snapped boards were 2 1/4" thick.

  1. As many as possible!

  2. Fix it myself but get a new one cause a snaps a snap!

Josh.

Below is my thin thruster, this photo was taken a while back, and Now that my thrusters a year old its seen mUCH better days! But its still going, I blame there airlines for alot of it.

I bought two buckled al merricks on ebay last year for cheap. fixed both and sold one for more than both of them combined. I have the other one just collecting dust as my fish is sufficient. I crack noses often, so i fix them and many of my friends’ boards (damn, shallow beach break!). The only justifiable reason for me to buy an al merrick is the ease of selling and its lack of depreciation in price.

Rio

I’ve been making a board about every two weeks. There was one year, when I was on an R and D binge, that I made 62 boards for myself. Some I ride once and sell, a couple are still around from that period.

Last year I think I snapped 5 boards, none of which I’ve ridden again. I’ve sold all of them except one that was too severe. I broke the noses off two others and our ding guy at the time fixed them for me. I rode them a few more times; sold both of them as well.

I’ve got three in the works right now; luckily there’s decent swell in our area finally.

I make about 2 a year depending on up comming surftrips dammage or to improve on a shape. I also make for my brothers and friends that another 15 boards or so.

I dont fix a snap past the first 8 inches. If I do I fix it myself. If not I make a new one.

Keep well

Hey Chipper, They posted this on the ‘Surfer Discussion’ forum on surfermag for you.

Josh.

I receive about 2 standard ‘thin thrusters’ a year, alongside logs, new singles and peformance lngboards and other crap.

If the snap is all raggered and rough, i wont bother fixing it, ill give it back to my supplier and he’ll get me another. If its a clean snap, ill re use it.
