Forgot wax agent = tacky hotcoat. Any takers?

In a rush, I foolishly forgot to add surfacing agent to my bottom hotcoat. Of course, it is now tacky and not worth sanding. I remember this problem being discussed here in the past, but did not come up with anything in the archives.

I’m thinking, it being lam resin, that I could simply re-hotcoat it. Essentially, there are two lam coats. So wouldn’t a hotcoat over them work? Or is this too obvious?

I guess we all make mistakes, eh? Any tips or advice is much appreciated.

Thanks,

Ryan

You just cheater coated it accidently. Just shoot your hotcoat (a little on the thin side preferrebly) and sand it good.

Very obvious! Rehotcoat, don’t leave out the wax. McDing

I’m still curious to see if spraying a speedcoat will work. Eurethane or Acrylic, take your pick. Actually - I’d go acrylic, the weaker the better, since you’re just going to sand it back off anyway. According to theory, it should work. …when has theory ever been wrong? …heh.

It’d be a lot quicker, cheaper, less mess, less fuss…

Feeling experimental?

…yea, I probably wouldn’t either.

I tried the clear acrylic over unwaxed hotcoat on a small job I was doing. It did’nt work. It did’nt cure properly. Ended up washing it of with acetone and sanding it.platty.

Interesting… thanks for the info.

So presuming that you put a good coat on: I’d say that either acrylic isn’t as air tight as we’d like to think, or there’s some reaction keeping it from going hard… or, this whole ‘wax rising to the surface to block off the air’ theory isn’t as solid as some would like to believe.

Hmmm…
