This morning 6:45 AM 1/31/05 while helping my old(98yrs)friend clean up his grand size barn, in the hills above the Pajaro Valley, amongst the 1941 Ford pickup truck, his 1947, 1939 tractors, old cowboy hats and tack, along the wall near the old worked 1940 Ford woodie, there it was laying among some old pile of tools, a longboard!? “daughters boyfriend left it here in 1970 something” said Ren, with slight scowl on face,“ya want it take it”. My reply,“yup”
The named shaper: Scofield Surfboards
The place named : Santa Cruz, CA
The board model : Perfector
The board : 10’ 50/50 rails glassed in fin in very good condition.
This name I know of in SC but don’t know much more. Any help with history of Scofield Surfboards from SDF members in the Santa Cruz area?
Scofield had a shop on Seabright Ave in the late 60’s/early 70’s. I bought a transition board from him in the summer of 1969. I seem to remember there were a couple of Scofield’s, brothers I think? Some of the Santa Cruz elders will know more, I’m sure.
is your friend by anychance willing to part with one of his cars? Willing to pay very nicely! That sick that you found a long board there, congratulations
take it to Johnny Rice he may have shaped it …schofield was a pirate that burned a few bridges with the help of a few swashbucklers …I may be confused but The elder Rice may have done the work…ambrose …rub it out and see the shine before you show it to the elders they will appreciate the care and respect, nothing worse than " hey look at this imperceptable dirty implement "
Steve Scofield was my dads brother.
Steve died in 1976 and my dad 6 years ago this April.
We still wear tbe name and logo… With pride.
I’ve been trying to get a board for myself for 30 years. When I finally hooked one thru Pat Farley we got it to Steves son, Eric.
We are 4th gen West side SC, and we are mostly still here.
Always looking for stories or pics of our dads.
Be well, peace.
