Found lost board....

Got this via e-mail:

Hi Paul…
A friend saw this on craigslist and sent it to me… http://sfbay.craigslist.org/eby/spo/2107983174.html
Now you know where board 5 ended up: “Board 5 disappeared in the dark of night while driving through heavy crosswinds near San Luis Reservoir…” looks like someone found it!
Happy Holidays!
best
Mike

Now the posting is dropped…Is there anyway to further track something like this down…???

Oh wow! I remember reading about you loosing it on your site. Do you know how much they wanted or if they named you as the builder?

So someone scoffed it up, held onto it for a while and now has the balls to sell it, crazy s@#$! Curious to how this ends as you are I’m sure.

A bit more info…I would really like to get the board back and will reward anyone helping me to do that…

Hi Paul.

I don't have any more info, unfortunately. Looks like it got deleted after I looked at it. This is what my friend remembers about the ad:
Shit, 'spose a Jensen board for $800 with no detailed description should have set off a few more flags. All I remember was that it hadn't come up from my normal search term "longboard," it had his built into the deck wooden Jensen logo clearly visible in the photo, and it was in Oakland. I looked around in my phone's cache, and the title of the post was "Surf board," but couldn't pull up any of the content. I looked around for similar posts but no dice. I would suggest him posting an ad asking about it, or a flier at the Mollusk shop in SF.
It clearly indicated both that it was a Jensen board (with a link to your website and the particular board), and that the side fins were off (I imagine they broke on their flight off your car?)

There aren’t too many hollow wood boards in the bay area, so I suspect a couple calls to surfshops, a swaylocks post and a Clist posting might prove fruitful. Good luck!

best Mike

sorry too say Paul but, it sounds like the guy who has it knows that he shouldn't have it since he took the ad down so quickly... i'm really close to Oakland and will keep my eye on the Craigslist... let me know if there's any way i can help... i can go pick it up if it turns up

Did you file a police report?  If you didn’t then you might have a hard time recovering the board.  Try PMing Durbs.  He just had a curious incident regarding a stolen board.  He can explain it better than I can.

Is this the one that was being shuttled south thru various hands from Oregon last year?  Or a differant one?

craigslist would have IPs and email addresses associated with this posting.

to make any use of this information, unfortunately, would require the cooperation of police and the ISP.

since you basically lost the board, I feel like you don’t have a whole heck of a lot of recourse…but I am no esquire.

Good luck finding this Paul…my friend will also be keeping an eye out for it (he’s the one who showed it to me prompting this whole exchange), I think he has Craigslist surfboards on RSS and checks stuff pretty regularly.

Google used to cache craigslist postings, but I guess there are too many now and they have stopped.

Thanks to all so far…

To be clear, the board was not stolen, it simply blew off in a severe cross wind, in the dark…I didn’t even know anything was missing until I got to the beach and it wasn’t there…I remembered hearing a “noise” in the San Luis hills, thus the conclusion…

I figured it busted into a zillion pieces and lost my emotional attachment to it…Until I heard it might still be in one piece…Kind of like a long lost friend…Lost five years ago…Call me sentimental…

I’m not looking for a give back, after all I lost it, and would be glad to buy it back, for a reasonable cost…Time will tell…
