Free blank becomes 7'6' minigin w/resin color

hey guys I got this pre CNC’d blank from my shaping buddy, It was a little yellowed but I skined it and patched the booboo’s and now it looks doable

dimensions are

7’6" long

18" wide

10" nose

12" tail

2" thick

This thing looks like a little gun, Check it out

I will do a thruster fin set with Glass ons

the fins I got are about 5" tall, Would I be OK to cut the side fins to like 3 to 4" tall?

Im thinking that 15" of total fin height is way too much

so 5" in the center and 3" side fins in a thruster configuration is what Im thinking

would that work?

also gonna do some more resin color work

I realy need some input to wether I can trim the side fins on a thruster set up

come on guys your input realy helps

I lammed the bottom today and waiting to cut the lap

so far this is it

what do you think?

Hey Ken,

I’ll jump in here to get the ball rolling. First, I don’t think 15" of total fin is way too much for a gun/semi-gun, though it might be a little excessive. I also wouldn’t reshape the fins into anything smaller than 4", even with that narrow of a tail. If you’re dead set on a 5" center fin, 4.15" or even 4.25" side fins would be my bet. If you have a few more minutes on your hands, you could refoil all of them to a nice, predictable 4.5" and call it a day.

You could probably go even smaller depending on your weight, tail rocker and, of course, the wave.

Usually about now I start to wonder what the hell I’m talking about and urge you to wait for a response from one of the fin guys.

Congrats on the blank, and nice lamination!

Jamie

God, I hate it when you young guys are in such

a hurry to glass a blank!!!

My 2c says to glass on 4.25’s and leave it at that.

Toe in is more critical here. I would try to go no

more that 2" off center at the nose. In a board

this size that is around 1/8 inch, but check it to

make sure. I would cant them at 4 degrees also

if you are planning on surfing it here rather than

in some exotic place (ex: Mentawais = 6 degrees)

Hey Retro thanks for the startup

Im not dead set on keeping the 5" center, but Im getting close to doing the fins and need to make up my minds on what I want to do. I think I’ll keep them all the same height

Somewhere between 4.25" and 4.50" ???

Heres the deck side after trimming the cutlap

Hey Teach

What can I say, I like to get my homework done pronto! LOL

I like the 4.25" fin height idea, I plan on just cutting off about .75" off the bottom of the fins, then I wont have to refoil them

That would also shorten the base length of the fins and fit the 1/8th toe in apropriatly

Any help with fin placement would be helpfull

I lammed the deck today

the fins were actualy 4.5"

so I knocked off .25"

now there 4.25 and looking good

I hot coated the deck so I can flip it and set the fins

Any help on distance from the tail?

Im thinking the length of the fin base from the tail for the center fin

but when do the side fins measure up?

heres the latest

I love my Logo

ok,

got the fins on and all is hot coated

heres some pics

full shots

this board is lookin good, at least I think so

Very nice! Will it stay sanded, or will it be glossed?

JSS

MaxM

of course glossed…with color comes gloss

I have to pinline my inferior cut lap first

I am really jealous of that paint job. how did you do it? resin tint with the stripes already painted on underneath?

crooks

with the deck masked off and the board belly up

4oz glass on the bottom trimmed

mixed black pigment, orange tint and red tint in seperate buckets

added cat to each

poured the black first (didnt mix enough as I realy needed, oh well good enough)

went to pour the orange but it gelled so I pitched it

the red was still good so I dumped and spred the whole bucket out

was running out of red so I added resin and got it finished

its not perfect cause theres two light red streeks showing a tad bit of weave

the cloth got color then the the lighter red went through to the foam

so the lam is good just looks tacky

heres the latest

the whole thing is sanded to 100 grt

and the deck is pinlined and gloss coated

I will gloss up the bottom tomarrow

heres a few new pics

all done

more pics in the " Show us your resin tints and patterns" post

beautiful!

thanks for the insight, it’s going to be another 3-4 weeks before i can even try and to glass my board. being in the middle of my bachelors makes things difficult. fucking marine science right, hell of major???

nice work! let us know how it rides!

I like the “psychedelic tiger” tint!

very nice work!
