Anyone ever heard of Freedom Surfboards?
Anyone ever heard of Freedom Surfboards? John Bradbury out of the Santa Barbara area made Creative Freedom boards.
I did a search here for Freedom because I got this pic recently.
Apparently, this is the crew from Freedom Surfboards, along with a customer who was picking up a new stick.
See anyone you recognize?
Some old threads never die…just got this email from Gordon McClelland regarding the above photo:
”From: Gordon McClelland San Clemente, California
Not sure if you even care about this, but I just came across a photo you posted years ago asking who the people in the picture in front of the Freedom Surfboard factory on Jersey Island are. These are the names from left to right.
Photo taken in fall of 1976
Connie, with sunglasses from Australia. Living on Jersey and was sanding and patching dinged boards for Steve.
Dave from Coff’s Harbor Australia. Living on Jersey and working with Steve
Pretty sure that is Bobby, a good surfer and shaper from Jersey
Steve Harwood, my relative, Steve’s brother Ian (recently passed) is my brother in law. Steve ran the Freedom Surfboard company factory.
Me… Gordon T. McClelland … surfer, art dealer, author. Close friend and agent (at that time) for artist Rick Griffin.
Rick Griffin. Internationally known artist of San Francisco rock concert posters, underground comix, and Christian images.
Steve and that gang made the surfboards for us. We surfed Jersey on the coast of France and drove to Mundaca Bay where we got epic waves.
Rick was my neighbor in San Clemente, Connie, Dave and Steve all visited us in San Clemente and stayed at my house. All people I am very blessed to have known. GM”
Thank you Gordon. Missed this the first time around on Swaylocks. Fit looking crew and nice boards. Lowel
