Really looking forward to seeing what you make out of that.
Mmmmmmhhhhhmmmmmmm… I can smell it from here… Have fun!
Where is it from?
I remember Shwuz’s trip to Ecuador where he milled and transported some balsa personally, it had the most beautiful grain.
Would love to see whats inside those logs!
Drool…
Looks good Bill. Have at it. Just my ignorance; but what is “perlah”?
Bill,
Where did you get it from?
That’s “Pelah”. It’s jewelry my wife brings in from Hawaii and the South Seas. When guys come in to check out the balsa boards she helps them buy presents for their main squeeze.
Where’s it from? It’s from where I get all my balsa: Manguante Bay
I saw that balsa Saturday morning after running into Bill while having breakfast at the restaraunt
adjacent to the world-famous ‘‘Balsa Bill’s Surf Shop’’. That’s some of the clearest, lightest wood
I’ve ever seen. Also got to check Bill’s personal quiver, including that beautiful Clark Classic-centered
one he posted recently and a Jim Phillips chambered/shaped sweetheart.
Bill and Nola’s shop is as much museum as retail store. He’s got his lifetime collection of surf memoribilia
laying about; everything from early-60s surf music albums to his vintage 16mm movie camera. And the
high tide line is about 150 feet from where that balsa’s sitting, outside the back door.
Marking the rocker on the wood
Hey Bill, just wanted to say thanks for sharing, I’m really interested in watching this journey/story unfold, keep the pictures comming
All the best Woody
Im almost droolin.
Can’t wait to see that wood cut, then we’ll see if it’s as high-quality as I think. (Not that I’m any great
judge of balsa…) Have you got a lucky customer for that one or are you keeping it for yourself?
The first one is going to Hawaii.
Team Balsa at “Pops”
Yeah Mike. The balsa looks pretty good. Got some cedar and gonna sandwich it with some thin balsa strips for offset t-bands.
Thanks to George Robinson for planing this wood on his thickness planer
Glueing up the center section
At the last minute I decided to add a thin piece of balsa down the center. It’s from a different batch and is a slightly different color.
Classy, subtle detail.

Don’t know why the photos aren’t showing here. They show in the preview. Anyway you can see them all at the link.
Looks like the old pics got lost in the switch over, hoepfully they will be back with us shortly, as for new pictures, tick the box that says “list” you maybe able to go back an edit this on the last post?
I’m liking the rocker in this one Bill. Mine is not easy to hang 10 on.
