I thought some of you guys might appreciate this-
We just spent a week at Leo Carillo and caught swell the whole time. On our last evening we (my wife, seven year old daughter and I) were sitting on the beach watching the surf in the dying light. My daughter and I were kind of acting the peanut gallery- cheering and booing the rides.
At a certain point a surfer started doing the “Huntington Hop” and my daughter squealed with laughter, and started going, “BOING, BOING, BOING!”
Another surfer, a moment later, did the same thing and again she thought it was the funniest thing ever- “BOING! BOING! BOING!”
That’s just in case any of you were wondering what you look like when hopping.
ps. neither of the hoppers made it to the inside section, whereas another surfer simply dropped back down to paddle, made it, got back up to cheers from daughter who exclaimed “Two rides!” A much more elegant approach.
I appreciate this. Very nice.
Pros and wanna-bees take note…even a 7 yr. old knows what lack of “Style” is when they see it !
Llilibel - I see you’re showing your daughter what the essence of surfing is all about…enjoy the ride with her…it makes for a fulfilling life. Never pushed my son into it - just showed by example - and now, he’s been surfing 15 yrs, he blows me away with his stoke…plus, he’s damn good - and never “Boings”, though he rides sub 6’ boards.
Tell that child Uncle Grumpy says she's a very smart young lady.
No Boingers!
What did she say about the kooks that kick their feet when paddling for a wave?
oops...did I just say that?!
Yeah I watched part of the Kailua Shorebreak contest this Sunday. The kids trying to hop, trying to riptearandlacerate were a joke. Some could surf pretty well considering no face was more than 24 inches of onshore shorebreak slop, and a good time was had by all.
"Ride the wave, not the board" from "The Ride" movie.
