front foot surfer (shortboard design)

i find that after surfing my longboards and midlengths for a while that when i change to a shorty i will always try to surf off my front foot, which doesnt really work too well on a tail driven design. anyone got ideas to alter a shortboard to suit.

Hey michael, I got some good questions answered in this thread, maybe there would be some info that can help you.

Mike- I hear you! I am constantly jumping around from board to board, from my 10’ logs to my 6’4" shortys, and everything in between. The fact that you realize the problem and know what is causing it (a lot of guys don’t realize that different boards need to be surfed differently) is a start. The more you do it the better you will get at it, I personally think that it makes you a better surfer. One thing that I found though is that shorter boards that have the widepoint pushed up from center are a little easy to jump back on, the extended rail line feels a bit more like a bigger board. So far I have found that the best solution is having some sort of fish (modern or new) as an in between board that gets you back in the shortboard groove. -Carl

i say change more often ,i had the same problem when i got into longboarding bigtime, got on my shorty and kooked …

now i have a rule i stick to religiously ,never surf the same board more than 5 times in a row, even if the surf doesnt allow it i make myself surf a different board ,that way i can make the transition easier ,like carl said it helps your surfing to surf different boards so everything is improved ,longboarding ,shortboarding ,gunning ,fishing and in betweening…,
