Frothing Fun compsand, up to lamination now so really frothing.

Shaping stands are at school for shaping the bottom contours tomorrow after school.

balsa strips ready, vacuum bag need new tape, deck and bottom veneers cut, LET ME AT EM!!!

Yew

Was a bit worried as i had to go to class as I turned on the pump.

when I came back to the she 79 mins later I found a leak and fixed it but much of the glue had already gone off by then. But it seems to have pulled in hard for the most part…

A-

Diggin’ the bookmatched woodwork!

DUDES!!!

fresh and trimmed.

the all covered in tape.

there will be some extra work around nose and tail blocks due to the 6mm balsa not wanting to bend as tight as i would of liked.

yew! Its looking pretty, just need kids to stop being on detention so i can work on it every lunch…

If you look close you can see where I will have to do extra nose and tail work.

I think I need at least one more layer on the angle at the nose and tail?

There is another two layers to go on the tail yet.

Then I can shape the rails.

Fixed the angle veneers, just need to do the final nose and tail block, thinking im going to put a few strips of western red cedar (recycled bits of timber blinds) between the balsa just fo a bit of interest.

This looks so cool.

Makes me want to try something with wood/veneer, too.

Started rough sanding the rails today as i finally got all the laminating done for the nose and tail.

Pics of the lamination of the last nose and tail blocks

Sanded the rails down to 80 grit need to do a bit more smoothing of the curve then it’s ready to glass.

Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful. Love watching this build.

Thats pretty cool mate

Had an issue with the original vac bagging, if you read the thread you know there was a leak in the bag due to having difficulty finding good help, ha!

So I drilled a hole through the biggest delam, injected it with resin and then thinned out about 100ml with some metho, spread it over the entire thing, this helps it soak into the wood and help it bond as much as I can, and the vac bagged it. Covered in plastic, like a vacuum cheater coat. Hopefully get to laminate tomorrow before work!

The worst place to glass in history. But I think I did alright.

Right next to a tractor with stuff all space to move around.

But  bigger me this is where it gets exciting.

I did a bit of sanding of the inevitable goody bits and the like from the plastic in the Vac bagging and then went for it. Carefully placed the logo over the drill hole to hide it. First time I have used the entropy resin and it was pretty good. I made up 450 grams total but it was about 80-100 to much. And the stuff  left in the post did a nice over beat and bubble trick but no smoke;) over all so far so good. The grain of everything is looking super sharpe!!!

Top lam done

Very nice.

Do you let the cloth hang in the tail and not lap it ? I guess to build the sharp edge lateron.

Yep, inspired by something I saw on here.

Yes, I´ve read it here, too.

Always wanted to try that out. But was insecure about the time shedule with my epoxy.

From tests I´ve done I know my epoxy doesn´t bond well without sanding if I wait for the fliptime / for when it changes to not beeing tacky on the surface (it´s still soft then). I´ve put on fillcoat immediately after flipping it and I could chop that coat of too easily compared to when I let it cure completely and sand it properly between layers.

I know most people say good chemical bonding with epoxy in the first 24h without sanding, but not with the stuff I´m using. (Although it´s slowly curing stuff)

So I´m a bit afraid that when I flip the board and fill the gap around the tail with resin, it wont stick properly to the lam which is a few hours older. But I guess I´ll just give it a try and see how it holds up overt time. I really like the idea.

Let us know how it worked out for you.
