Will see how i go!
top filler,
Can see a few bubbles in the lam, where there were some ups and downs in the timber grain and joins between the rails and veneers etc, and the discolouration where the PU foaming glue bled though to the top of the deck is always a bummer. but all in all its looking pretty damn nice.
I hate it when I have a hole in the bag. I always have had trouble if I turned on the vac and left. Like to go surf. The board looks great hope it surfs great too.
all sanded.
Ready for sealer.
Just have to fill som bubbles around the fin plugs with some durarezin.
So i was all done, had sealed it with a varnish.
Was running late for school and it was left in the car for the first lesson… entire deck delamm…
Now i have had the kids help me mark out some geometric patterns based on the joins and drilled 36 holes on the deck for injection of resin and then vac bagging.
gggrrrrr
Joys of kids helping me seal the vac bag originally.
…like the fiddleback grain on the back half…curla-the-mo …although , it needs aft orientaton to get the energy fields in sinc
I made a board years ago and I left it in the sun to post cure. I forgot about the board and an hour or so later I went to get it. Huge delam on the deck. About a 1/2" of airspace where the foam outgassed. I knew it was airtight, so I figured it was water tight too. I surfed it a few times and it didn’t seem to hurt the board. The cold water would shrink the deck back a little. It was trippy riding that board with the soft deck.
When I finally took the deck skin off, I found that the delam was not at the skin, but in between 2 layers of foam. We used use a layer of 1" foam and a layer of 2" foam over that, and we would place a wood “Springer” between the foam layers. I didn’t rough up the foam enough and the bond between the foam layers failed.
Dunno…looks pretty good to me !!!..I like things a bit “Rat” and a bit course grain anyway !!..lol
Spx
School compsand is in the vac bag right now, fixing the delam on the bottom, will be sturdy as now, if a little heavier than intended.
Damn it, for letting opther people help with important steps creates mega headaches later on…
