Full sized Simmons hulls

Any one have any pointers to articles, design documents and the like for full sized, Simmons hulls?  I’m looking for templates, fin placement guidelines and the like for hulls in the 9’ 0’’ to 10’ 0’’ range.  I especially need info on twin keel hulls and twin keel fin placements.  Info on twinzer and quad hulls will help too.

Before anyone says “search the archive”, I did that already and couldn’t find anything useful.

Thanks in advance

Seems to me like if you are going to try to get a full sized accurate Simmons shape out of an existing blank you have made your first mistake. If you want to make a foam board I think you need to start with a block of foam around 6" thick totally flat with no rocker.

I have looked at all of the blank catalogs and can’t seem to find anything that will work. The use of the word “Simmons” has turned in to catchall phrase. Simmons this and Simmons that. You might be better off saying “Simmons Style”. Or “kinda like a Simmons” or better yet…“.kinda like the one I saw on the cool website”  Thats my rant for now.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions.  I’ll try to contact Richard Kenvin.  Good suggestion on starting from a raw foam block.  I’ll check the JoeB website.

another source is spencer kellogg/paul gross at i-shapes. as for what blank, all i know is when paul built his first simmons inspired board(pretty true to original) he had walker glue two blanks together. since theen he and spencer have come up with solutions to blank size, board size, etc.

Yea Matt…that would of been this one shaped in 2003.YOU(you probably remember) as a matter of fact, were the first to ride a wave on it! I actually picked up the blanks at Walker and watched as they offset cut them and then glued up the two wider pieces and also the narrower pieces with a wide balsa stinger. The pic at top is the Simmons that sold at auction for $40,000. Mine not as radical in the tail…and not as thick or long…The original was 11 foot ±

Thanks again to everyone.  This set of notes is leading in the direction that I wanted.

Any one have contact info for Paul Gross?  email or phone?

Thanks

Marty

You can reach Paul on his surfmat.com site.

Marty, Last I knew, P.G. was in Paso Robles, Ca. making surfmats. His site is 4TH gear Flyer. You can contact him that way. His shaping partner Spencer Kellog is the I Shapes guy and is in Ventura, Ca. I Shapes has a web site also.

that has got to be one of the nicest boards i have ever seen..

must ride  so..so...

dang.. i can even think of a proper word..

to describe that...

wouldn't happen to have a side shot pic..please?

oh i remember! PG initially made these boards to ride a certain, slow breaking point wave. the wave may be slow, but man-o-man did these boards frickin’ fly! i remember taking yours out to tune fin. (sorry i rode it before you did, but PG is responsible for that one!) they get into waves so effortlessly, and hit instant speed. PG has seen his share of  point waves of all sizes and speeds and he said it was, by far, the fastest he has seen anybody go on a 1 foot wave. definitely a LOT of built in horsepower on that baby!

PM for boarding on Oahu. Been thinkin bout having another made for So. Cal. and Mex…
