I would just like a little clarification on future fin installations. 1. How wide does one rout the finbox (ie. how much wider than the 1/2 inch width). 2. As for the rest does the following installation sequence sound resonable: -Mark out fin placement -Rout approximately 5/8" deep (for the 3/4" fin boxes) plus the 3/16" depth for the 1 and 1/4" trim that sits flush with the foam. -lam in with cabosol, taping perimeter to reduce excess spillage -apply 2 - 4 oz football patches (taping to reduce excess spillage) **Now does one cut out the glass (of the football patches) around the fin box slot or does the glass cover the box slot completely (assuming it is taping underneath)? **When the fin box and football patches are installed, does one laminate entirely over the fin boxes, or are “gaps” cut to laminate around the fin box slots?
masking tape precisely over the slot then glass over the boxes. I have found it is better to wet the cloth over the tape to ensure no dry spots exist near the lip after you sand. Sand off the glass/tape over the slot. Be precise with your tape (i.e. don’t let the tape go down the sides away from the slot at all) or you will run into difficulty sanding it off.
Thanks for the input. Appreciate it. Any thoughts on wether to put the football patch(es) reinforcements directly on the foam (over the boxes) or after laminating the first layer and then hotcoat over top. Also, any problems with installing a 3/4" centre fin on a 6’0" (it’s a fish design with a little more thickness)
