unless you have the fins already, save yourself time and hassle and just use some fcs plugs, they are easier post glass job…
Nocean,
At this point its 50/50 Both will require reinforcement in the area of the install.
So it really doesnt matter much if its FCS or Futures.
I would recomend Futures so you can get matching sets of fins
Either way you need to reinforce the install.
With Futures it would be after the install FCS before.
Either way you are sanding down the hot coat on your board and adding the extra glass to support the strength the fins require.
FUTURES…
Sand area
Route out foam
Install boxes.
Glass over with 2 layers of 4 ounce cloth.
Hot Coat
Sand to finish
FCS…
2. Glass over with 2 layers of 4 ounce cloth.
3. Hot Coat
Drill plug holes
Install Plugs
Sand to finish
You do the same steps for both, so pick what will work best for you.
Aspect is right, the area of the reinforcement where your tri-fin boxes are installed are not large enough to overlap into the area you will want to install your quads. You need that extra cloth otherwise you will have a weak fin install and would blow it out rather quickly.
I second the vote for futures if you have to do all that work, its nicer to be able to buy quad fin sets as oppossed to having to mix and match fin systems.
