Futures Box Gummed Up With Resin

So I have a major problem.

Picked up two new boards I had custom made the other day. Both are outfitted with Futures fin boxes. As it turns out, one box on both boards was sloppily covered during the glassing. As a result, in both, the little knob in the back of the futures box is all gummed up with resin, so much so that I can’t get a fin to fit in either box. In both the resin covers the top side of the little knob, filling in the gap there. In one, the resin also spilled onto the bottom of the box, mainly along the sides.

What do I do? Is there some sort of a substance that will dissolve the resin but leave the plastic of the fin box unharmed? or are both boards ruined, and I have to go haggle with the shaper for a refund and/or new boards? Any input would be GREATLY appreciated, as I am tearing my hair out here!!! Thanks in advance for your help!

there is not a solvent that will dissolve the solid resin but not the box. you can take a screwdriver to it and chip the resin out or use a dremel tool - you might want to take it to whoever made it for you so if it gets damaged, its their fault, not yours.

Hey grasshopper,

A wood chisel the slightly narrower than the fin box will get you there. Small hammer tapping lightly and the resin will chip out. If you go slow you’ll be good to go in just a few minutes. If it’s still stuck to the sides of the box the chisel will peal it of easily. Sharp tools answer a lot of problems.
