Hey everyone, i glassed a set of futures boxes into an epoxy board and i guess the epoxy must have gotten too hot and it shrunk the slot for the base of the fin and i cant get the fin into the board now. ive glassed my share of of boxes and never had this happen in either epoxy or poly resin. Bahne was a genius for putting those tabs in the slot. anyways super bummed about that now i get to router them out and do it over. So the question is how does one prevent this? When i do it over should i have the base of the fin inside the box to keep it from shrinking? thanks.
Set the boxes with fins (or dummies) in the boxes.
Not sure how you set the angles without em.
What Angles??? If the angle/cant is built into the fin?? Why would you have to set any angle with regard to the box??
Yep I routed them out and bought new boxes, did it all again… this time with the base of the fin in the box. I am also using 2 part epoxy which is tricky. Prior I had mixed 30 ml of the stuff and laid both boxes in at once and it exothermed really hot which probably pinched the boxes. I’m learning you don’t want to mix up too much of it at once or else it goes off really hot for “fill type” jobs. So I mixed 15 ml and just set each box separately instead of doing both with the same epoxy mix. That worked much better… didn’t get hot at all. We all good now, was rewarded for my efforts at swamis last night with half a dozen guys and a rainbow sunset. Stoked ! Thanks
