Recently picked up a used mini-simmons board with a Futures quad set-up. Having no experience with Futures boxes up to this point I mistakenly believed I could convert it to a twin keel as the back boxes are in the perfect position for a classic mini-sim set-up (near the rail and tail). I wasn’t aware that Futures back boxes are only 1/2" deep and all the Futures keels I found are only made for front boxes. Anyone have this problem before and any ideas for remedies?
Futures has a 3/4" depth and 1/2" depth box. You can replace the back 1/2" with the 3/4" depth boxes assuming you have enough foam thickness(looks as if you do). Rainbow Fin company(RFC) can make you a custom 1/2" base keel set with an on line order. You could make your own or modify a 3/4" futures you already have to 1/2". One-half inch depth futures boxes are mostly placed as back fins in boards because not enough foam thickness, the way fin sets are sold with 1/2" rears and the laziness and sheep like mindset of board manufacturers. If I have enough foam in the rear I always place 3/4" boxes in quads and some back center fins because there is a 1/4" adapter able to make any 1/2" depth futures type fin fin in a 3/4" depth box. Which box depth do you think would be more durable and failure resistant? Board looks fun
