When we make colored plastic injection molded fins, we use a base resin with a fiberglass or carbonfiber filler and a color concentrate to get the color desired. It takes a lot of color concentrate to make white fins. This compromises the physical characteristics of the base resin. That’s why we never made white fins for general distribution. They are softer and less resilient. It takes very little black color concentrate to color a base resin black. So, you’d have a very hard time finding any difference in their physical characteristics from natural colored fins. But, both FCS and Futures used base materials that were inferior. So, they made a bad impression on the general market. To get away from that bad impression, they went to a better base resin and changed the appearance to natural. That way the general public would persieve a change had occured. It’s called damage control. Unfortunately, it makes a lot of people believe that all Black fins are inferior. They are not. But, you need to know that the company providing your fins has its priorities straight and looks for performance over appearance.
