Garage sale. 20 bucks. 5 10 super volumed early thruster.

Went to a garage sale with my wife this morning. I hardly ever see boards. Today was different. I got this for 20 bucks. In pretty good condition, foam is pretty strong, deck isnt too bad. A few small dings i’ve already patched up. With some luck, and a bit of sanding tomorrow, i’ll ride it on monday. Dims, roughly, are 5 10 x 12n x 19 5/8-3/4 wide x 16+ tail, x 2 3/4, with a lot of foam through the nose, and a very flat deck, plenty of foam on this sucker. Note the logo isnt straight on the deck!!> And i’d buy the centre fin alone for 20 bucks, it;s in top shape. I now have two of these thruster sized centre fins that go in a longboard box.

Dont know much about channels, but these are deepest ( 1/4’’ ) in the middle of the board, and fade out near the tail. On the off chance, anyone heard of free ride surfboards???

EDIT, sorry, free spirit surfboards

Cheers.

$20 Buckssssssss !!!

Ya done good old mate and not a bad plan shape either

Figure this one out … went to the point this morning and “Tom Curren” paddles out to shark island on an old “Emerald single fin”

The Emerald would have to be worth at least $10 bucks … ah … what do you reakon its worth now !!!

Gotta go… grabbing some dinner and off to the fish fry in QLD

Cheers

Would be unreal to see someone like tom curren in the water, regardless of what he was riding. I surf mostly where mick lowe lives, but i think i’ve seen him in the water once, though i hear he likes his waves on the large side, and i don’t haha!. Solidly built bloke.

Love to be going to the fish fry, let us know how it goes mate. My board is nearly done, the resin is still a bit tacky, it’s been cool here lately, and i shoot my resin low when using MEKP. Couple of days i hope to surf it.

EDIT:, Can i surf the board if the resin is tacky???. I used lam resin, and im itching to get it in the water. Did it yesterday, and want to ride it tuesday. Will it be ok??. I think it would be but want to make sure.

He paddled out in North County a few Saturdays ago

Ok i’ll be trying this board tomorrow. Been looking at channels in the archvives. Seems most channel’s are out the last half of the board. On this board, the channels start just in front of where my front foot will go, and fade out before the tail, which is slightly vee’d. Can anyone tell me what effect this will have on the board, rather than out the tail of the board??. BTW it looks as though the channels seem to flatten the rocker out a bit… I like speed in small waves, and i’ll just be happy if i can catch the junk and have some fun. If it turns sharper than my TK i’ll be happy too!.

Cheers guys, will post tomorrow on how it goes. Will only be small though, so i dont know how it’ll go, or if i’ll be able to ride it, it’s probably the most high perf shaped board i have hahahaha.

Belly chanells as they were called in the 80’s where for lift ,I think Tom Carroll had them in some boards I had a Darby with them and it used to lift when it planed, Bob Mc tavish used to put them in his mals as trim channels to flatten out the rocker on his mals when the come back into vogue because they had so much rocker and triming was an issue.

my good buddy is in santa barbara currently and about two weeks back he was out all alone and chest high sandspit and this guy with this weird ass board came down the beach, low and behold it was tom curren. He and curren surfed sandspits just the two of them for like an hour and a half.

oh yea, great find, looks like it could be a blast.

great score mark !!

i look forward to hearing how it rides … i’m still a big fan of the 80s boards !

cheers

Surfed it today, but shouldn’t have. Total junk, not even waist high, fat, dead high tide gutless crap. A longboarder would probably not even go out. I caught a few , but struggled to keep up with the wave. Paddled and floated not too bad, though i wouldn’t want to be paddling far. There is a hollow beachie not far from here that most of the time has hollow waves ( and lots of bodyboarders ), even when its small, which is a very short paddle, i think it would work good down there. Will report when i take it down there.
