gas torch it

i usesd a bench top epoxy for a gloss coat and flamed the shit out of it to level and it turned out mint. anyone else had a crack at that. . didnt have to even touch the deck it was high gloss off the mark. bottom i hit with 320 freecut and left it that for butteryness

Hmmmmm
Sounds interesting…
I wonder if a heat gun would do similar

I’ve done it. Not on a surfboard through.

That tabletop stuff works really good.

A heat gun will work, although I’ve never tried it on anything surf related…

They also make spray solutions what can do the same.

Again never used in a surf application so proceed with caution

I heat gun mine sometimes. It works. Just have to stay far enough away not to start blowing around your now low viscosty resin with the gun. That, and be sure not to melt or overheat things to the point where your resin starts smoking. That’s from personal experience.

I use heat gun too. It work but not magic for me. I try to spray solvent, it work too but leave a semi gloss not clean finish and it’s nasty.

Yeah, the blowtorch trick is a classic old-school method for opening up bubbles in cast epoxy.

how well do the bar top epoxies hold up to UV exposure and yellowing? which brand did you use? I would also be worried about flexing and the bar coat chipping off. got any pics of the outcome?

well its been 8 months and the board is still mint. still has full gloss. i just wiped a section of the nose with a tea towel to photograph. its actually an extremely durable finish coat imo

i used a soft flame but no soot.
