Gearbox finboxes... something new from Robin Mair

like like like

I messaged with Robin a few months ago and he mentioned that he was working on something but I had no idea he was so close.
If I would have known about this a few weeks ago, I would have used Gearbox instead of Fusions on my last 2 boards.
I like the looks of everything.

Mahalo, Chris! It has been a long haul getting this system done, but it is working out well! We have done a lot of testing here and in Australia and the system is really strong. It is a very simple system with no adjustment as I wanted something that would be really easy for people to understand and use.

Just produced a large batch of plugs that are in transit from our manufacturer in South Africa, so we hope to have a pile of plugs available early October, stay tuned!

Robin, are you adandoning Probox? One of the nice things Probox does is give us options for the cant, and a little fore aft movement. Is that something that may appear down the line?

Robin

I'll be in town the third week of October. Maybe I can stop by and check out the boxes or even pick up a kit?

will your old probox fins fit or be modified to fit the new boxes?

in the old system you left the router guide on when installing the box. In this system you don't.

Does this system install more like a future/lokbox setup then?

Sharkcountry, they will have canted inserts similar to Probox.

I'm really stoked on the under glass install

they look the goods robin - looks like they are 2 tab/fcs compatible, is that correct?

Are you going to do any discounts for bulk orders or it is what it is?

i've been using surfinz boxes which I am pretty happy with, but have had a few blowouts, caused by the actual boxes splitting during turns, so am keen on trying something different.

i like the look. and the idea, Saw a set on a board that was over here recently. They have a good look to them… But heres my question. Why design a new box that revolves around a dated design? Sure theres plenty of 2 tab fins out there. But even the originator of the 2 tab system is going away from it. Of course they will support it, but it seems like a system designed for last years boards if that makes sense. Or a fresh approach on an old design.

Hi Acqua,

I can answer that question: in most 3rd world surf countries, like Europe, the only normally available system is FCS. A few Futures are available, but most is FCS. So why introduce something new, when entire continents have nothing but FCS 2 tabbed fins?

The other day i had a look at my fin quiver, nothing but FCS. Personally, i would not buy a new system here in Europe. Did so some time ago, with Speeedfins, took lessons from that for sure. Keep it simple, and CHEAP, buy fcs. Distribution is a large part of selling products, and even 4WFS has trouble getting their system into our daily waters here.

Originator FCS is maybe now doing something different, their new system is still backward compatible, for all good reasons.

Cheers

p.s. maybe you don't realize it, but you are in a epi-centre for surfing, with all sorts of stuff going on locally, which is a very good thing for you, enjoy it!

Is this fin system coming to any of our suppliers in the United States???

Looks interesting. Pretty keen to give these a go on the next board  wondering will you be making a plug with more cant  in the future?

The system does not revolve around the dual tab compatibility, it just happens to be compatible with dual tabs. We have our own base design that is more like a ProBox base with a small circular cutout in the center, so that they are still compatible with ProBox. We simply chose to additionally support dual tabs because a lot of people have the fins, and because they are available world wide, but we prefer a full base because it has much better flex characteristics.
