Discussions of the “Gemini” double-pointy tip nose design have popped up and I feel I must say: I feel REAL strongly against these, which have been showing up far too often in the lineup. First, they are unnecessarily dangerous for NO increase in performance. The two points offer no advantage over a solid square nose- think about it: if that part is in play, it’s already too late- you’ve pearled! If you want a longer straight nose rail-line with more area, just go square nose. (I have made funboards with the solid square nose and they give this benefit (?) without danger). Second, these are a needless danger to yourself and other innocent riders. I’ve known many surfers who’ve been hit by their nose or others- this design doubles the chance of getting seriously injured. Last, having two weapon points in the front has made attitudes of riders of these atrocious- they hog every wave thinking they are immune to water courtesy since everyone else backs away from their nose weapons. I’m about ready to duck tape some foil points on to my boards nose and paddle out to make a point to these @#$! jerks. I call them “Forky Pigs”. Say “NO” to these guys in the lineup. I mean, why not just resin on razor blades next?!
Ok I’ve taken a pill and calmed down.
Theres a guy that surfs my home break Laniakea all the time with one of those. I must say it looks terrible as far as performance. ive seen 10foot longboards turn better. Gets in early though, like a longboard but longboards turn better. Cant really see any advantage to the design. Kinda wonder why people ride those.
it’s a marketing scheme. i saw their website and just had to laugh. right up there with the penguin. remember that. i was actually embarressed for the guy.
I’ve seen some of these we glassed at the Bear factory in Byron bay when the shaper was visiting - Alien concept indeed! http://www.speedneedle.com.au
Tubedog, don’t calm down, you are absolutely right! The design is total crap, as well as dangerous. The GEMINI name is ripped off to boot. The original GEMINI was designed by Thrailkill, as a twin fin,and produced by surfboards Hawaii in 1970/71.
WOW!! I just checked that Gemini website and they make the design sound like a revoloution! And I just saw the same guy surfing the Gemini design today at Laniakea…The website makes claims of massive speed increses over the traditional design bucause of the double hull design from what I saw…NOPE! Not even close. From what I have seen it looks STIFF!! It will hold speed well through sections without much pumping but its not fast. Most guys on traditional shapes were faster down the line. I guess some will undoubtedly like the design but from what ive seen, its not for me.
It’s just like I believe someone else said- just take an 8’6 gun and chop off a foot off the nose and the tail, then spike 'em. You’ll be left with something that paddles better than a performance board, but rides like a frankenstein and is dangerous.
Has anybody here tried one? I’ve seen the best Merricks and Brewers look like total dogs in the water under the feet of a kook. Recently read about speed records set by picklefork racing boats and of course we know catamarrans are fast. Isn’t this the same concept?
You have got to be joking! It’s weenies like you who hold this sport back.Have you ever heard of a venturi vacuum?Well Mr hydro dynamics expert. That is what Gemini riders have under their feet.Do you have a Venturi vacuum under the hood of your surfboard?EYE DONN THIN so!!“Think abouit this”.Your square nose adds weight, alot of weight. You have no Idea what is under the hood of a Gemini, and your imprisoned brain can’t even comprehend it.So before you go on spouting off about the most ADVANCED SURFBOARD ON THE PLANET!I suggest you ride one .“Think about this” over 700 gemini riders can’t be wrong.Another thing if your scared of getting hit by your board it’s time to take up womens softball.
Right on lala. I’ve been riding Gems for 12 years now, was sold after the first wave I caught and most other designs just don’t cut it for me any more. To each his own but all these screamin kooks complaining and you know not one has ridden one or could tell you the first thing about all the design concepts that are incorporated into them. Fastest boards I’ve ever ridden and they turn on a dime, unlike the wonderful yet tracky and stiff fish. I’m in Pahoa for the next week and I think I’ll give you a call.
