Do you make short films or create artworks with an ocean theme (or bovine for that matter??)?
In recognition and celebration of our beautiful environment where dairy farms meet the windy sea… you are invited to enter short films or static art for display in the Gerringong Town Hall (New South Wales’ South Coast of Australia) and join us in person or spirit on Friday the 7th, Saturday the 8th and Sunday the 9th of September 2007. We would welcome your entry no matter where in the world you are.
Gerringong’s Short Film and Art Festival is the ocean equivalent to the Banff Mountain Festival with a couple of differences. Our Festival celebrates short film and art that has the Ocean as it’s element and we are much smaller than Banff!
But this doesn’t mean we don’t get some great entries. Last year George Greenough won the Open Short Film category with his film ‘Heads’. A short film which captured the spirit and fun of surfing in the early 70’s and containing the faces of Australian surfing from this era. Combined with an original tune ‘Heads’ captured everyones imagination, with many people recognising the faces of surfing in the 70’s. In 2006 the winning artwork was a Mosaic dog with an underwater scene on it’s body. Called the Salty Dog, he had the local art society up in arms claiming it wasnt real art! We welcome all forms of art as they are all inspiring and imaginative.
For this year’s Festival your short film or art needs to contain reference to the sea and/or cows (we’re a dairy area!) and/or the wind (it can get windy in Gerringong!!). Films need to be under 7 minutes and music that doesnt breach copyright. We have junior (under 12), youth (12 to 18 years) and Open categories in both the Short Film and Art sections.
To find out more about the Gerringong Cow and the Sea conditions of entry and where to send your entries please go to:

Entry is free and you are welcome to sell your artwork, with 100% of the sale price going to the artist.
You don’t need to attend the event personally, you can post your work, but Gerringong is a beautiful holiday destination with some great surf and we would love an international contingent attending our Festival.
Help us to make this Festival great and if you have any questions feel free to contact me.
