I have a few design questions that I wanted to ask you fine folks here. On a longboard pig shape, how far back would you put the widest point? Also, would you rather have the rails, soft 60/40 or 50/50. Here’s the dimensions that I’m thinking about. 9’2" x 16" x 22 1/2" x 15" x 3 1/8". Flat to slight vee bottom, 5" square tail and low rocker. Thanks for your input, Mike
If it were my board, I would’nt go further back than center for the widest point. As for rails, I prefer a lower rail, 60/40 or lower, with a low hard edge in the tail, a bit more responsive and more versatile for my liking anyway.
Foamdust, how far back would you put the widest point from center? 4", 5" or 6"? Thanks -Mike
During the 60’S, the standard for wide points was 6" behind center. A lot of the new age longboards carry the wide point at least this far ahead of center. The pig boards of the era were closer to a foot behind center. Velzy has interest in creating a new kick-tailed pig (he feels the modern surfer butt wiggles too much). THe farther back the wide point goes, the shorter the turns become, also they start to get flatter, as on rail the board is prone to spinning out from so much curve and width
Mike, The last two 9 foot longboards I made the widest point was at dead center, 4’6". I really like them both. http://www.islandfindesign.com/finstore/proddetail.php?prod=IFN
