getting ready to glass board #1: looking for some advice

I finally finished and signed my first shape–a 7’2" single fin. Thanks to the guys who helped me with the shaping process! I’m really happy with the results and about ready to start the glassing. I just have to wait for the fin box to come in the mail. I’ve watched the JC video a few times so I understand the gist of it, but I want to visualize a better picture for each step.

Unlike the Glassing 101 video, I’d like to do cut laps. I plan on first taping the deck, then laminating the bottom with one layer of 6 oz cloth. Then, of course, I will cut the fabric, and laminate the top. I am still unclear on how to laminate the two top layers of cloth. Do I laminate both at the same time, and cut at the tape just like I did the bottom? I’m not sure, but this is how I would first attempt to do it. Please let me know if I’m wrong. Any info would be great.

didn’t load the picture right.

2 layers at once… Heck more if you want. I don’t know if people use tape/cut lap the second side.

Hey thanks. Should I wrap both the top two layers around the rails, or should I make the first layer touch the bottom layer that wraps around, and the second layer freelap around the rails? If that makes any sense.

Good drawing Bud. Zanderm -------As per Buds drawing. If you are doing a standard 6/4 oz. Cut the 4 at the bottom of the rail line and lap the six onto the bottom. You can free-lap with out any problem. Since you are lapping on to a bottom that is already glassed. Watch the JC video again. I think you missed a few things. Lowel

Thanks for the diagram. I decided per a longtime boat fiberglassers recommendation and archived posts to go with UV resin for the extended work time. I am also just going with a clear finish with free laps, so I will do it exactly as the diagram and JC video. Thanks again. Stoked to get started!
