Ghetto FCS Fins?

Last week I made some glasson plywood keels for a “practice project”. I used an FCS “TF1” kind of turned inside out for my template, cut fins out of 1/4 marine ply. I liked the result of the shape and the foil, so I decided to make some for my son’s fish that were FCS compatible. I have made some before, but never really figured out a LEGITIMATE way of treating the tabs. I just cut them out with the planshape and glassed along with the rest. There is always a compromise when sanding the tabs to fit perfectly, and I have never been satisfied that they were sealed. I was thinking about soaking in cold resin for awhile then setting off with a few hot drops??? I am sure there are some other backyard freaks out there with some good ideas… help a brother out?

Looks like a nice foil on those keels, I like the way they look.  Lay up 12-15 layers of 6oz, or if you want a stiffer fin use 4oz but around 20 layers 3 at a time saturate and squegee, cut out and foil; you can do this.  Do it on a piece of tempered glass as thick as you can find, don’t pay for it go to a glass shop and get scrap glass, and wax the glass with car wax 5 times, cleaning each time, and you will be surprized, mix colors, and change colors and you can make something incredible.
