let stay focused on Surfboards…Amen! This awesome place is where I go to hang with cool people who are as obsessed with surfboards as I am. By the way, what sort of stick would you folks build for a 6’5" tall dude who weighs somthing like 350 pounds? He has some bookie experience and he skates ramps, but he has never stood up on a surf board. Thanks all! Scott.
…Something huge,like 11’+++and bullet proof!!!(weight shouldn’t be a problem for him)Herb
…Something huge,like 11’+++and bullet proof!!!(weight shouldn’t be > a problem for him)Herb About 24.5" wide and 3.5" thick too.
And a 17" nose, 14" tail with a 3" baby square tail block.
How about we skin a 11’3" Clark, glass it, and send it out as a single fin? It’d probably be a goer right off the sanding rack!
Hello to you Scott W! You said the 350 pound “BOOKIE experience”??? Bonta (I, myself) thinks that is the one very biggest shark biscuit!!! A finest plump target for the 4 finner, razor-nose, 16 of feet Mougabwa Dominator Model! On that day I shall announce with politenesses, “MY BETCH, MY BEACH, MY WAVES, MY RIDES!!! Go back to the sandy shores you rotund pronish infestation!!!”
Thank you for all the reply’s. I better get busy making a big-ass template! I think that may be the hardest part. Do you guys think I would have any luck stretching a 9’2" up to 11’ feet? or should I start from scratch. Any one in Santa Barbara County have a BIG template I could trace? Thanks again, Scott.
Scott, design yourself an 11ft template. The guys on this forum or the archives can probably explain how to do this better than I, but I’ll give it a shot. Don’t ever stretch a smaller template into a bigger one or make a smaller one from a bigger. It’s all about the curve, which must have a natural flow. You’ll need to make a trip to Home Depot. Get an 8-foot sheet of their 1/8" thick board - it’s bendy and works well as your template. Also look for a long bendy piece of wood. Go with something 8ft +. This will serve as something to trace as you bend it to the curve you like. There are different ways to go about getting your curve, but generally you should have some basic dimensions in mind before you start (let’s hope.) You should at least know your length, nose, width, and tail. Since your length is 11ft, create an 11-ft sheet board. You’ll have to cut what you have lengthwise then attach it and trim down to 11ft. Once you have an 11-foot board, you’re ready to create a curve. Since this is a half-template, all measurements will be half of the total. If you want a 20-inch nose, you’ll measure 10in @ the nose on your sheet board. Mark it with a pencil. Wide point, say 6in above center is 24in: measure 12in out. If the tail is 16.5in, measure 8.25in @ the tail. These are reference points which you will connect together using your long bendy wood. Place a nail into each reference point and attach the bendy wood with a clip at each point. It will help keep it steady as you try out different curves. The idea is to make a natural looking curve. It helps if you have more reference points, but with a little patience this will work. When you have the desired curve, trace it out and cut an 1/8in outside the line. Sureform and sand to the line. Template done. Hope this wasn’t just a confusing mess. Good luck and let us know how things go.>>> Thank you for all the reply’s. I better get busy making a big-ass > template! …or you can just take Paul’s advice and glass the 11’3" as is. I wouldn’t even skin it though…

Anything over 8’ I’d make a spin template. Follow the advice above but use cardboard for your half template, most cardboard can be surformed and sanded to clean up edges, then transfer to a half size sheet of 1/8" stock. I get 4’x8’ sheets of 1/8" mahagony plywood for $11.49 at City Mill. I get someone in the lumber department to rip it into four 11 3/4" sheets. Transfer your cardboard half template to the sheet of plywood. Forward 1/2 on one side of template, rear 1/2 on other side. A spin template is much easier to store, and easier to work with in the shaping room.
Rich is the man with the action plan. You’re in biz!>>> I’ll send you some number to draw an outline from if you like. Just email > me at >>> Mahalo, Rich
let stay focused on Surfboards. I accept your terms, and agree that Swaylocks should stay non-political. As I remember from the deleted thread, Mr. Hunt initially questioned whether you moderate this forum. As a participant in other forums, political and not, I have some advice for you. To accomplish a forum which is even relatively non-political, the sysop must read and moderate it frequently. America is at war. The thread in question was started by (supposedly) two guys blaming the war on America’s President. The messages stayed there for a considerable time before I repudiated them. Political arguments usually rankle many members of non-political forums. But arguments have two sides. Most people read a politically charged post which they agree with and say to themselves “nothin’ wrong with that!”. But let another poster enter the other side of the melee, and the same readers will say “Whoa! THAT’S political’”. The Swalocks political posts in question were seditious, but had no rebuttal. Only when I rebutted the posts did the thread become a “political argument”. I don’t like political posts on Swaylocks either, but I’m not gonna let one side of a political argument, especially one this important, go unanswered when not removed in a reasonable time. The forums I’ve participated in, political and non-political, have been tested by politicos and pea brains alike. The more popular the forums are, the harder they’re tested. Vulgar, silly, and political posts spell the end of those all-important hits and website revenue. To protect forums from such posts some boards resort to registration. In my experience registration makes little difference in ultimate forum success. The initial determinant of forum success is good content, like Swaylocks. But only vigilant unbiased moderation can keep successful forums from collapse. If Mr. Hunt is “right” about Swaylocks needing non-political content, then let him also be right about Swaylocks needing to be moderated.
I think most people believe our current administration are a bunch of corporate war mongers who , first off , took all the money, then proceeded to lie and deceive their way into a position where we will never know the truth. It’s ironic that Bush has threatened Iraq with use of weapons of mass destruction on a nation that (might ) have development capabilities. They have told us that they will lie to us in order to deceive the axis of evil. Anyway , Bush don’t surf , can’t surf , and never ever will surf.>>> I accept your terms, and agree that Swaylocks should stay non-political.>>> As I remember from the deleted thread, Mr. Hunt initially questioned > whether you moderate this forum. So you guys may build a political surfboard and try and ride it if you choose. The first thing you’ll have to do is see if it’ll float and methinks the majority of them won’t. I prefer something that has some integrity, that’s light with a foil that pleases the eye that I can ride, not a submarine. Gone Surfin’, Rich
I think I read somewhere that Bush actually did surf down around Galveston > T.X. a long time ago…R.B. He was butt-hole surfing, Rob.
I think I read somewhere that Bush actually did surf down around Galveston > T.X. a long time ago…R.B. That was during his coke / baseball period , but we won’t talk about that.
Noodle, My apologies. You are correct. Better moderation is needed on my part. I’ve been better in the past and I’m going to try to be better in the future. Mike
