Ashley Lloyd (pro longboarder) shapes her own boards as well.

there is a lady shaper here in oregon who makes beautiful boards…prizes for surf contests and such, they are of that caliber. yes. shape. don’t take any slack from the boys… buy your own tools so no one will hawk-eye you and give you a hard time. you go girl!!

I’m a girl and i’ve shaped 13 boards. I have a few of them posted here. Everyone I’ve met has been very supportive…especially in this forum! Go for it!

That’s funny! She’s been in D.C. for the Presidential inaguration since sunday. I let her know about all the posts and shes stoked, and excited to start studying and learning how to shape.

Hey I’m back!!

I was in Washington D.C. for the last week.

It was fun but it was too cold for me.

Thank you so much for all the supportive comments. It was fun to come home to them.

Thanx to your support, I’m going to do it (with the help of my dad that is.)

   Your's truly,

Tell dad if he needs anything ,I’d be willing to lend a hand.Herb

I worked with a female glasser this summer. Amazing. She was our head glasser and very good. I learnt a lot from her.

Herb,

Thanx for your generosity.

Do you shape many boards?

My Dad is shaping his first board. It’s very BIG!!!

I can’t wait to ride my own board.

I am a new surfer. What would be a good board to shape for someone with little experience in surfing and none in shaping? In other words what will be a good board for me to grow on, but not to hard to shape?

my girlfriend shaped her first board last night it came out really good its a 7’10 x18x17x3 mini log/ double ender with 50/50 rails and a little bit of nose concave and single fin. its pretty basic but really good.she did about 95% of the work. i sat back with a 6 pack of beer and supervised it was a real good time. i think something a lot like this or maybe a bit smaller based on your size will work really well

i will try and post some pics of them a little later today

Things got too crazy around here in 99’-2000 so I cut back shaping to a slow crawl…in my life bout 20,000 boards.

Both you and your father are more than welcome here, just ask.Do you surf Blackie’s in Newport much?Herb

Yes i do surf blackies, mostly bc I live right in front of Blackies.

I haven’t surfed much but cant wait till i do. It will hopfuly be today.

"Hey, my name is Ellizabeth, I am 15, I live in Newport Beach Ca.

And, I just started to really get into surfing. I am going to try to shape my own board, I can’t wait. Do you think i can do it? "

I say,

“I am 49 and started shaping last year. I have never had a better time in my life going thru this learning experience and WISH I would have started this at your age. The folks on this site have an infinite amount of knowledge and support to offer to all that are willing to experiment with the making of a surfboard. Take advantage of them! Go gentle on us old guys. Just kidding. Use them and their knowledge to to make your own surfboard(s). When you are done with it(them) and ride it(them) you will not believe the feeling and satisfaction from the first wave that you catch from something you have made. Life is short, make it last as long as you can by doing what you want if you have a chance to do it and not harm anyone else in the process.”

Any how GO FOR IT!!!

heres the pics of her board. both boards are eps and yes the nose looks off on the fish becasue the stringer got a little cock eyed the last 4 inches. this was my first and probably last attempts at with this stuff.

Those boards are really cool. I might try something like the little green one. My dad says its a fish. Why is it called a fish? Also thanks everybody for encouraging me. This is a really cool place.

hey thanks for the compliments, i really dont know why or how it got named a fish but it has to do with the tail. the swallow tail lossens up the board a bunch. i dont know if you read the previous thread but the longer board my girlfreind shaped all by herself. good luck with whatever you decide to build and i cant wait to see the pics.
