Its called a fish because of the pronounced wide point forward of center. In boatbuilding - where the name & idea of ‘fishform’ boats goes back thousands of years - its a shape made for speed & stability, with a small sacrifice to handling. There are fishform kayaks & canoes found in indigenous boatbuilding populations all over the world.

What are the sacrifices inherent with this shape, i.e. wide point fwd of center?
Turns a wider arc than one with WP back, all else being equal. Of course, you can make up the difference with fin & rail & tail rocker changes, but then you sacrifice some of the positive characteristics of the design like down the line speed and drive.
