Glass deforms under localized pressure

I’ve managed somehow to laminate my first board. Its a restoration/modification job. Used 2 6oz layers on deck and 1 6 oz on the bottom. Resin also contained black pigment. Appart from problems with air bubbles i’ve notced that if I apply pressure to the bottom of the board with my thumb the glass gives a little. At the moment there is no hotcoat so its bare lam.

Will adding a hotcoat reduce glass deformation effect or should i add another layer of cloth to the bottom?

Does this happen to anyone else or is this normal?

Thanks for any input!

Regards

Kon

PS. Will post pics when its anyway ok looking.

Pretty much normal until the hotcoat and full cure.

Classic.

Ok, thanks NJ! Was worried to death!

Bizgravy: Noobville, what can you do?!

Nothing to worry about, but here a little tip that may help if you get a little dent in the board before full cure and usually even after and has saved my skin on a few occations, take a hair dryer or heat gun to the dent and watch as it morphs back into shape. just don’t over do it.

Hey woody! Thanks for the advice! At the moment there are no major dents, when I press on the glass it gives a little but as soon as pressure is taken away it springs back to original shape, so its flat so far. But good to know for the future.

Not sure about the full post cure though, the Gurit system that im using specified 5hr at 80deg C, I have no access to an oven that size so It looks like ill end up with a more fragile glass job than potentionally possible. The graphs on Gurit website showed a marked diff. between the tensile strenghts of post cured resin compared to just cured.

Ill prob. have to construct some sort of heatbox type thingy for future boards. 80deg C seems like a tall order though.
