in the current issue of ‘Surfing World’ magazine. [Australia]…no, NOT ‘surfing life’ !]
There’s a beautiful green tinted / pigmented ? board Neal Purchase jnr is holding in one shot. With a rainbow in the background. The finish on the board looks like a ‘Moonlight Glassing’ masterpiece…different continents, though.
When I buy the issue , more detail may come to light …
Hey Chip, I got the DVD of Glass Love for Christmas, and I highly reccomend it-beautiful boards, waves, and surfing. Through the video Neal Purchase Jr. uses at least 2 green-tinted boards, one is a 6’0 twin keel fish shaped by his father off of a Rich Pavel fish, and the other is a single-fin shaped by Pavel that is probably the board in the photo, with a dark green bottom and cutlap and a lighter green deck. Purchase is great to watch, he has a masterful backhand tube style with a really cool drop-knee way of stalling. This film is full of great boards and surfing, and as a bonus Andrew Kidman sent a personalized, hand-written note along with the movie. Classy!

…a bit of a fluke that my 5’7 single fin pintail turned out a similar colour, considering I sprayed it blue with a yellow overspray. Yes, guess what happened ! Got to let that paint sit a while…
i braved the superbank today but it was nothing like that pic haha…i just dont come in happy after surfing the goldy anymore. it takes my stoke away.
HAHAHA! I felt your pain, sometimes its better to go out on the small days where its less crowded (only like 3000000) rather than the perfect big days (crowd no. 1222200000000000000000 x100000000x2)
personally , I dodge the goldy and head for byron if you work it out and hit the water after the workers and before the dolies you can get broken head or wategoes or the pass for that and have a couple of hours with minimal crowd. or scotts head I’ve had it midweek on my own. North shore of noosa pull up and the only crowd is what you bring , can be a bit sharky on your own, price to pay I suppose.
If it’s even possible, how long does it take to get a wave to yourself on a small day at the Superbank? if your at Snapper it takes a long time if you don’t take the scraps, but I found to get some uncrowded ones at little marley further down, and if theres enogth power greenmount is rather easy.
Like, how many waves do you average per hour assuming you’re not one of the rippers getting all the waves? At snapper maybe 4-5 good ones an hour.
Is it REALLY worth it to surf the Bank with all those people? And what other nearby alternatives are there that aren’t as crowded? Well yes surf the bank, heres a good tip, early morning like 7am and earlier its pretty good and you have a good chance to get some waves, and other breaks like D’bah (which is a great beachie) is a little easier to get your wave count up,
Kirra isn’t that crowded any more on a small day, the alley absoulotly rules, and burleigh is still very crowded.
Theres lots of other spots, but they are sometimes fickle.
