hi i am new to swaylocks and board building i’m on my second board now but this one i am using glass on fins how do they fit?, is it a case of glassing them onto the foam or do you cut a slot for them to fit into.
and do you fit them before or after glassing the board.
How did ya put 'em on the first one? Lots in the archives and glossary. They go on after laminating the board. No slot,just tack them in position,put the fin rope in position along the sides and cover the fins with 2-3 layers of glass extending 2" or so onto the bottom of the board. Feather the glass and start hotcoating.More in the archives…have fun…peace and waves…
the first board had fcs fins, nice and easy to fit but thought i would try a different approach for this one.
you mention a fin rope? please explain.
Howzit pal1, One little tip, lay down an oval glass patch where the fin is going to be( Like you do for FCS) to reinforce the area. Since the bottom only gets one layer of glass, it can sustain a lot of damage if you break the fin, an ounce of prevention. Aloha, Kokua
