I was wondering what year silane cloth was starting to be used instead of volan? or for someone very wise and experienced what a typical glassing schedule looked like in the 50’ , 60’s , 70’s , 80’s and the 90’s. Thanks
Silene was out by the late 60’s, but you know, you use what you can get, not what is theoritically the best.
Typical schedule for what size board for what size waves for what size rider?
My '65 Oneill Intruder had double 10 deck, double 8 bottom.
Typical 9’ gun of the late '60’s was single 6 bottom, double deck 6 with knee patches.
Same with my mid '70’s singles and twins.
Thanks lee, exactly what i was looking for.
Wow double 8 on the bottom of the LB. Had some wieght on that one.
Typical 10’er of those days were around 22 lbs.
In early '67, Tommy Ross won the Pedro Point contest with a 8’6" RamseyJ that was glassed single 6 bottom and double 6 deck. Board lasted about 2 months total, getting dinged beyond yellow by the first month.
Most peeps couldn’t believe how light his board was.
That year, the Aussie V bottom came out, most weighing in the 17-19 lbs range for a 8’4"er like what Nat and Bob were riding at Honolua.
Jan 68 I got mine, used, from an unknown Aussie shaper, 7’7" x 23 deep V bottom diamond tail. Previous owner told me it would only last about 3 months, being 15lbs. dead even (glasson 8.5 raked fin). I started building boards by March, and decide 6’ x 22 was a better direction, single 6 bottom, double 6 deck with knee patches.
I think our illustrious Ambrose came in second or third.
