It ‘s amazing how some glassers’ work is SO good! By the same token, I am appalled at what some people are trying to pass off as finished work! You commercial shapers must rip out (what’s left of) your hair when you finish an excellent shape - only to hear about horror stories of sand throughs, and delams - after the fact. Please vent with past tales of woe! (an instigator)

Please vent with past tales of woe! (an > instigator)>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>How’s this, I built a custom oldschool twinfin fish for a friend. He insisted on taking it to a well known glass shop in H.B.So I shaped it for him and he did the rest(took it to the glassers)The ONLY thing that I provided other than the shape/blank was a custom pair of my hand built fins.A month or so later I get a look at the board, and I noticed the fins had been swapped out for a commercial pair of thinny twinnies with carbon fiber on the flat side. When I asked my customer what happened to the fins…HE DIDN’T EVEN NOTICE!..Later I found out that they(my fins) ended up on a Chuck Dent fish that had a sucky shape…NICE GUYS!!!Of course they(the glass shop)denied doing this, claiming that the fins on the board (my board) were the ones I had made.HA!..Also, some of the boards that I have built for this very same guy(in the past) had so many sanding digs in the surface that it made the board look lumpy(you guessed it,the same glassers)Herb.
The surfboard industry is like Major League Baseball, too many teams, not enough pitching. There are so many hack shops it’s shocking. There are few sanders who actually know what they are doing. There are even less people who care about the craft. Illegal mushroom shops pop up everywhere, undercutting the legitmate shops prices for a year before folding, then a new appears, and so on. It’s depressing to watch surfers sacrifice quality for a thirty dollar discount. The guys with work ethics are outnumbered by the bozos and it has given the pop-out guys a chance to spew their proganda about their silly boards that don’t work. SIGH
